Week 319 Update

Week 319—the 319th day of a standard year is November 11th, it may be an omen, because the last time I saw a number on the scale in the 190s for one of my daily or weekly weigh-ins was on November 11, 2006. Maybe next week I will start seeing some numbers in the One-derland range again.

However, it wasn't to be this week. This morning at 6:00 a.m. I stepped up on Mr. Scale, and he said, "201.0 pounds!" I am a pound and a half lower than I was on New Year's Day, and I am 10 pounds lighter than I was on March 24. For all my daily and weekly weigh-ins so far in 2007, I have landed between 200 and 211 inclusive. However, I think that is about to change! The reason is that I not only hit 200.0 pounds on Monday this week, I also hit 200.5 on Saturday, Tuesday, and Friday, making four of the 7 days within a half pound of 200.0 and within a whole pound of the 190s. Not only that, I averaged only 37.0 points-per-day this week!

My average weight for the week was down half a pound from last week's average, and my 14 day average weight has been in a steady fall since early May. (On May 8, it was 205.61, and today it is 201.5.) All the indicators are showing a consistent overall loss on the scale. So, the fact that this week's weekly weigh-in was up a half pound doesn't bother me a bit. Things are right on track! I should be back in my target range soon. And I am not struggling at all in what I am doing. It is a nice comfortable feel to the process.

CHRISTMAS ALERT!

Since we just passed by the summer solstice, that means it is the time of year that I often break out my Christmas music, and Christmas movies and have a "halfway there" celebration. Since the winter solstice is only 6 months after the summer one, in two days it will be half way to Christmas!

Of course in North Pole, Alaska right next to Fairbanks, it is always Christmas. I only wish it was closer so we could visit it!

I got some walking in this week: 12.40 miles, and that was good for 29.10 aerobic points. Thirty is my standing target, and so I was really close this week. Also, Dotti took a walk with me on one of the outings and that was wonderful.

Our highs last weekend were in the mid to low 60s, which is great, but Saturday and Sunday kept me pretty busy with my update. We had a lot of pictures that I needed to go through for our trip to the coast, and that means sorting, resizing, organizing in the HTML document and then doing the written description of what was going on in the picture, and that is in addition to the main write up, and number crunching. Saturday I weighed 200.5 pounds and I ate 42.5 points. I was tied to the computer a lot of the day, and didn't get any walking in. Sunday I woke up at 5:30 a.m. and weighed 201.0 pounds. I only ate 35.0 points and I finally took advantage of the great weather and walked 3.10 miles in 49:20. So far, I have not really tried a speed walk around the loop. I am working myself up to being able to do that.

Monday I weighed 200.0 pounds even. That made me smile because 200.0 is actually in my target range, right at the very top. I ate 41.0 points and at lunch I walked 3.1 miles in 48:47. It was only 67° for our high, and the conditions for walking were great.

Tuesday I weighed 200.5 pounds, and I only ate 32.0 points. I also walked 3.1 miles, but I got out there at 10 a.m. and didn't wait for the heat to creep up. The high for the day was 84° and I wasn't interested in walking in that kind of heat. I took some ibuprofen for my back and I ate late dinner. That impacted my weight on Wednesday morning.

Wednesday I weighed 204.5 pounds. We took Dotti to get her cast off in the afternoon (the high was 85° and we definitely used the car A/C). Getting that cast off was a very nice event, and as you can see Dotti was smiling!

While I was waiting outside of the office for her, I was playing around with my camera and took this picture of my reflection in my sunglasses.

And now Dotti is really smiling! The cast is gone, and she was ready to start enjoying a cast-free life again.

In the afternoon I put our large A/C unit in our living room window. The small one we had been using there just wasn't carrying the load. The new one seems to be working a lot better. I ate 30.0 points for the day, and Thursday the scale dropped to 201.0 pounds.

Dotti stayed up late on Wednesday night to get her newsletter done. And then in the morning on Thursday I took the "rough draft" and I got it ready to "ship." I hit the send button just a bit after noon. Then it was a scramble to get ready to make it for my dental appointment. I am not sure where I am heading with my teeth. (Dentures?) This appointment was with a new dentist just to get an evaluation and a second opinion. The jury is still out. The temperature was a little cooler at 77° for the high. That is still a little too warm for my liking.

Later, Dotti and I had a wonderful 3.1 mile walk together in the cool of the evening. Now, that is what makes my world go around. She didn't even have the cast on, so I could hold her hand better. There was enough light for kids to be still be able to play basketball on the unlighted courts around the area, though the sun was just down out of sight, and the heat of the day was fast escaping. I started off wearing a windbreaker, and Dotti had one of my long-sleeved cotton shirts on. Just after the 2-mile mark we both were feeling warm, and I took off the coat (Dotti was nice enough to tie it around her waist) and I took the shirt instead, leaving Dotti with a tee-shirt; her thermostat is almost always warmer than mine.

I ended up eating 37.5 points on Thursday.

Friday, I dropped back to 200.5, and things cooled off a little more with our high at 70°. I took Dotti to her wrist therapy, to help get her right arm back to normal quickly. After that we stopped for a Jamba Juice.

Those big cups were filled with a real fruit smoothie (Strawberry Nirvana with a fiber boost) that was only 4 points! It tasted great and was filling too. In the evening I played my guitar and did some singing. It is amazing how much of a workout that actually is. I always feel exhausted after a couple of hours of that.

I knew I wasn't going to show a loss after my dinner on Friday night. It was very filling and there was some salt included. So, even though I only ate 40.5 points for the day, I moved up a bit on the scale for this morning. But that should make it easier next week to show a loss.

All and all I am very happy with how the week went for my journey and I hope next week goes as well.

6 years, 43 days on my journey; a lifetime to follow.
