Week 234 Update

It seems like the "hurrieder I go, the behinder I get." I am writing this Saturday evening, and I still need to go back and fill in what happened last week.

I got up a little late, because I really needed the sleep. It was 07:20 when I finally got up. The rain was pouring down and it was 44° when I stepped on Mr. Scale, and he promptly said, "186.0 pounds!"

I was out sick for 3 days this week, and for most of those day I couldn't even sit at a computer keyboard. A lot of times when I am ill, I can still write, but not this time. This is the first time in several days when I really felt up to typing.

The news continues to be bright and sunny on Dotti's journey back to goal! She has completed another week of remaining within her points every day, and walking on the treadmill EVERY DAY! She is drinking her water every day as well. In reality, that is the most important thing, however, she also lost 1.5 pounds!!! J

Dotti is doing absolutely awesome on her journey, and I am so proud of her!

You can continue to follow her progress at her Dotti's Return to Goal page.

My own struggle this week was with trying to overcome illness and still hold the line on my eating. I often will try to stuff a cold with food, and I did just that for part of the week, but then on Friday, I had weigh-in looking me in the eye and I had to hold back. Fortunately, I wasn't too high on the scale before I got sick, so I had some wiggle room when I ate higher on my points.

Here is my week in review:

Saturday - I weighed in at 186.5 pounds.

We were visiting my Mom on the coast, and as it turned out in the morning, Dotti and I went in to do some shopping while Mom went to church. Actually I spent my time in two book stores, and Dotti visited the casino there. I think I may have more fun though. J

We were quite surprised when we found an All American ice cream outlet. However, we were not too surprised to order up a cone apiece. J The same restaurant offered sub-type sandwiches, so we each got one of those as well.

During the afternoon Mom, Dotti, and I took a 3-mile walk along the coast. We saw some very beautiful scenery, and we had a very good time. Unfortunately, it turned out to be all the walking that I got in for exercise for the week. L

We had a very nice evening visiting in the condominium, with the fireplace going, and the sound of the ocean in the background.

By the end of the day I had eaten 33.0 points.

Sunday - I weighed 185.5 pounds.

We took Mom into town and we stopped at an outlet store mall. We spent some time walking all the way around it, and found a few good deals.

We stopped at a Christmas shop on the way back to the condominium, and had an enjoyable time walking through and looking at all the beautiful Christmas decorations and trinkets for sale. Christmas is next month, but it is never very far away from our house, as anyone who has ever visited it knows. (Dotti keeps the Christmas village up all year round and we always enjoy lighting it up, no matter what time of year it is.)

We had to say goodbye to Mom in the afternoon, so that we could head back home. However, we knew that she would be coming by our house on Thursday, so the goodbye was not painful.

Dotti and I hit the American Ice Cream shop on the way out of town, because we could. J We made the drive home in about 3 hours, and settled in for the evening.

I ended up eating 38.0 points on Sunday.

Monday - I weighed 184.0 pounds.

It was back to work, and back on the pager on Monday. Things weren't too busy at work, and the day was pretty good.

When I got home, Dotti had made us a nice meal, using a new recipe using cranberries and turkey. We also had some yams, and some other goodies.

My points totaled 40.5 points when I went to bed.

Tuesday - I weighed 186.0 pounds.

Tuesday turned out to be my last full day of work for the week. I didn't feel too bad, but I was a little lightheaded in the afternoon. I didn't think anything of it at the time.

In the evening I was busy helping Dotti with a few things for the web page, and before long it was time for bed.

I ate 38.5 points on Tuesday.

Wednesday - I weighed 183.5 pounds.

I was not only down on the scale, but I was down for the count. I was feeling dizzy, and nauseated. I could tell early on that I would not be able to go to work. I also figured out that I would not be able to do much on the computer either. I tried lying down, but I couldn't sleep either. I ended watching a few old Bewitched shows that we have on DVD. It is a true waste of a day when the best I can do is watch television. L

I ate more during the day to try and make my stomach feel better. It was somewhat successful, but the points added up.

I hoped that I would be feeling better in the morning.

When all my points were totaled for the day, I had eaten 56.0 points.

Thursday - I weighed 185.5 pounds. I was happy that I had been down to 183.5 pounds on Wednesday, so even after jumping up a couple of pounds, I wasn't in too bad a position on the scale.

I got dressed and headed off to work. As I was leaving the driveway, I had a moment where I almost pulled back in, to stay home, because my stomach all at once gave a lurch that felt dangerously close to having it return what I had given it earlier. However, it passed, and I made the drive in to work.

Unfortunately, I was only there for a couple of hours before I had to head for home, because I was feeling much worse.

Later in the afternoon, Mom arrived from the coast for her visit. We were able to visit, but I couldn't do much except vegetate and wait for time to pass.

By the end of the day I had eaten 46.0 points.

Friday - I weighed 187.0 pounds. I was feeling no better on Friday, and I didn't even try to go to work. I relaxed through the day and hoped I would get better soon. I was able to sit at the piano keyboard for short stretches, but there was little else that I was up to doing.

I had to be careful that I didn't overeat on Friday, with my weigh-in coming up on Saturday. So, I held it down, and drank a little more water to get me by.

I ate 36.0 points on Friday, leading to my weigh-in of 186.0 this morning.

How do I rate this week? For weight control, it was a good week. For health it was not so good. I only hope that next week will be better.

Eating – I averaged 41.14 points-per-day, a little closer to my traditional maintenance level.

Weight – My weigh-in was down a half-pound this week, but my average weight for the week went up from 184.79 to 185.36. Since I would be happy with either of those averages, I am not complaining.

Water – I drank at least 6 cups every day. I averaged 56.00 ounces (7.0 cups) per day, right in the middle of my goal of drinking 6 to 8 cups per day. J

Exercise – I got in one 3-mile walk. Not much, but at least it was something. Plenty of room there for improvement I think.
