Welcome

Happy 4th of July! What a great weekend we had here in the Northwest. Hope all of you had a wonderful holiday.

Today as we start our visit I’d like to talk about the scale. I would like to dedicate this newsletter to my good friend in Texas who is having quite a "battle" with that iron master. We have all had our battles with the little object that we let determine whether we are a success or failure on this Journey. One thing I know for sure is that the scale is inanimate – doesn’t have feelings; it’s just a cold piece of machinery. Yet, we let it control how we are going to feel after weighing. Amazing, isn’t it?

Let’s think about this for a minute. Wouldn’t you like to have that power? Guess what? You do! That power is within all of us. We need to find that power and harness it.

First thing is to change your definition of Success on this Journey. Is it only when you are done with the Journey? Remember you are never done with this Journey. It is your Journey for the rest of your life. You are developing healthy habits for your new healthy lifestyle. Is it only when the scale shows you a loss? Success is every time you eat healthy, drink your water, exercise, help and support others on this Journey, laugh, be creative, and most of all, enjoy this Journey.

I know when you first start this Journey you want to set goals. That is a good thing as long as they are reasonable goals and goals geared towards changing your lifestyle to a healthy one. One of the goals is usually to weigh in once a week. The accountability is good. We do have to remember what I said above though; the scale is inanimate – no feelings. It delivers a number and that is all.

How many times have we said, "I worked hard all week staying on Program, drinking all my water, getting my exercise in and this is what I get? A gain? How can that be?" I know I have moaned that same thing at times. Then, what did we do? Yep, we went off program. It may have been only for the time it took to eat all those Twinkies or it may have been for the day or week. The point is, we let that scale tell us we were a failure.

Instead we should have been saying, "I will NOT let the number on the scale dictate to me what kind of Journey I’m having. I know I’m doing all the right things for my healthy lifestyle. The scale will catch up to my good behaviors." Then you need to reward yourself for a great On Program week. It should be a non-food reward. Maybe a new paperback, bath salts, purse, or get a manicure or haircut. Reward yourself with something that makes you feel good and that’s relaxing. That gives YOU back the control of how you feel. Doesn’t it feel great? Sure it does!

You need to remember that you are a SUCCESS because you are on this Journey. You are a SUCCESS because you are not quitting, no matter what! You are a SUCCESS because you are taking care of YOU. No machine can tell you otherwise. Positive thoughts – if you can’t muster some up for yourself go to our Message Boards and get some from others on our Journey. We are all there to help each other. It’s a wonderful thing – love, support, laughs, and lots of Hugs!

"Enjoying Weight Loss"

The weight loss battle is over 90% mental. If your attitude is right, and you are completely on board in your mind with your weight loss program, you will succeed. We often find that it is our own inner self that is at work trying to trip us up. This is why hypnosis can be a tremendous help. It has helped me, both to quit smoking, and to start back on my way to goal with a strong will to succeed.

I use Dr. Roberta’s Enjoying Weight Loss Hypnosis CDs as one of my "tools" on my lifelong Journey to a healthier me. They continue to be an irreplaceable part of my Journey back to goal.

The Hypnosis Network is a reliable organization with nothing but top line hypnotists working in the program. Each of them has years of training and experience, and is an expert in his particular area. I can recommend them to you with no reservations, because you will be getting top of the line service when you work with The Hypnosis Network. Their guarantee is rock solid, and you will be free from worry about the product. Either it works, or you get your money back. They are honorable, and trustworthy, professional in every way. I absolutely would not recommend them if they hadn't of worked for me.

Click Here to go directly to their site and find out more about the Hypnosis Network, and how you can order your CDs.

I have found that when I use the CDs regularly, I always do well. It is only when I don't listen to them for too long that I find myself slipping into old patterns. For me, if I use them, I succeed, every time.

If you would like to read more on how they helped me please visit our Enjoying Weight Loss Review Page.

Motivation

Look on the Bright Side

For every negative that consumes your happiness,
Affirm two positives that sustain you.
For every "should’ve" you wish you’d done,
Acknowledge something you’re glad you did.
For every loss that has altered your world,
Count from it something you have gained.
For every limit that has ever beset you,
Consider your possibilities.
You can’t always change the way things are,
But you can change the way you wish to see them.
Never stop looking
For the brighter side and beyond.

And if you haven’t already visited our Message Board at:

please do. There is 24/7 support there and you never know, you may be just the person to help someone else find those positive thoughts they are in need of.

My Journey Update

A little about my Journey back to Goal...

...I’ve had a good week and managed to drop another half pound. Woo! Hoo! Last week was the first week I started feeling better after a 3 week bout with a flu/cold/virus – who knows, but it wasn’t fun.

I listened to the exercise track on my Enjoying Weight Loss hypnosis CDs and the next day I was back on the treadmill. I really, really love listening to Dr. Roberta Temes. She is so positive, so relaxing to listen to, and I really love the way I have no problem working my Program after listening to her.

I used the treadmill twice last week and it felt good to finally get back to my walking. This week I’m hoping to do more and also get some time in on the elliptical trainer. There are no food challenges coming up except what I bring into the house so I’ve got to be careful when I shop since my appetite has returned along with my taste buds!

Again, I’d like to thank all of you who continue to send me emails of support. They really are a constant source of inspiration for me.

Comic Relief

Gather around everyone and listen carefully. This is one of my favorite brownie recipes and it’s calorie-free! I remember these days well, when my son was little; they were hectic but so much fun!

Mom’s Brownie Recipe

Remove teddy bear from oven.

Preheat oven to 375. Melt 1 cup margarine in saucepan.

Remove teddy bear from oven and tell Billy "no, no."

Add margarine to 2 cups sugar.

Take shortening can away from Billy and clean cupboards.

Measure 1/3 cup cocoa.

Take shortening can away from Billy again and bathe cat. Apply antiseptic and bandages to scratches sustained while removing shortening from cat’s tail.

Assemble 4 eggs, 2 tsp. vanilla, and 1-1/2 cups sifted flour.

Take smoldering teddy bear from oven and open all doors and windows for ventilation. Take telephone away from Billy and assure party on the line the call was a mistake. Call operator and attempt to have direct dialed call removed from bill.

Measure 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 cup nuts and beat all ingredients well.

Let cat out of refrigerator.

Pour mixture into well-greased 9x13-inch pan. Bake 25 minutes.

Rescue cat and take razor away from Billy. Explain to kids that you have no idea if shaved cats will sunburn. Throw cat outside while there’s still time and he’s still able to run away.

Frosting
Mix the following in saucepan:
1 cup sugar
1 oz unsweetened chocolate
1/4 cup margarine

Take the darn teddy bear out of the @#$% broiler and throw it away—far away. Answer the door and meekly explain to nice policeman that you didn’t know Billy had slipped out of the house and was heading for the street. Put Billy in playpen.

Add 1/3 cup milk, dash of salt, and boil, stirring constantly for 2 minutes.

Answer door and apologize to neighbor for Billy having stuck a garden hose in man’s front door mail slot. Promise to pay for ruined carpet. Tie Billy to clothesline.

Remove burned brownies from oven.

DWLZ Cookbooks One and Two

Have you ordered your DWLZ Cookbooks yet? These cookbooks are filled with recipes that are Zonies' favorites, dishes that are delicious but on program, with nutritional information listed. This is two books in one package: DWLZ Cookbooks Volumes One and Two. The recipes are easy to make and don't use hard-to-find items. They are together in one PDF file, viewable in your free Acrobat Reader (Version 5 and higher). These make wonderful gifts.

Food Finds

Since it’s grilling season here are some great low calorie wieners. Both Al and I love these.

Oscar Mayer Fat Free Wieners (made with turkey & beef) [40 cal/0 g fat/0 g fiber/3 g carbs]
A serving size is one hot dog.

You can find more barbecue meal ideas on my website at:

http://www.dwlz.com/WWinfo/barbecue.html

Another favorite of mine is made with organic vegetables & grains:

Amy’s Veggie Burger Quarter Pounder [220 cal/5 g fat/6 g fiber/25 g carbs]

These are delicious topped with a slice of

Sargento Deli Style Pepper Jack Cheese [80 cal/6 g fat/0 g fiber/0 g carbs]

Software You Can Use!

A Note Weight Commander

The Weight Commander is an awesome program for your Journey. I highly recommend it to all those who are on a Journey of their own. It is a wonderful program to track your progress on any weight loss program you are using. You can read My Review of the Weight Commander or go straight to the source and check out this great software by following this link to Weight Commander. He has many tips and ideas throughout his program which will help you to be successful on your Journey.

Summertime Water Tip

Now that the weather is getting very hot another way to get some of your water in is with the many different flavors of Crystal Light On The Go packets [5 cal/0 g fat/0 g fiber/0 g carbs] My favorite flavor is Raspberry Ice. Two other flavors that I tried and liked were the Classic Orange and Raspberry Lemonade. They are great to carry in your purse to perk up your bottle of water. I add it to a 24 oz bottle of water and find the flavor to be fine.

What's for Dinner?

I don’t barbecue but I still love my hot dogs and fries. My favorite veggie with this meal is baked corn. I put some frozen corn on a cookie sheet and bake it until it gets a little crispy. Add a little I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray, salt and pepper and say YUM! I bake it all in the oven or the toaster oven on the warm days.

Oscar Mayer Fat Free Wieners (made with turkey & beef) [40 cal/0 g fat/0 g fiber/3 g carbs] 3 oz Alexia Frozen Krinkle Fries, about 13 pieces [120 cal/4 g fat/3 g fiber/19 g carbs] 2/3 cup Flav-R-Pac Frozen Super Sweet White Corn [90 cal/1 g fat/4 g fiber/16 g carbs]

I’ll have my hot dogs on low cal, hi fiber bread as I’m not a big bread lover and I can save calories that way for snacks! Al will have his hot dogs on the plate covered with sauerkraut.

Portion Size Tip

About 1 cup or 1 medium fruit is your Fist.
About 1 oz. cheese or meat is your Thumb.
About 1 tablespoon is your Thumbtip.
About 1 teaspoon is your Fingertip.
Your Palm (minus your fingers) is about 3 ounces cooked meat, poultry or fish.
