Week 46 Update

I woke up early this morning, sometime before 5:00 AM, to the sound of Dotti's fingers typing away on her laptop. The motel room was comfortably warm as I crawled out of bed and went to wake up Mr. Scale. He looked up at me with his green electronic eyes and said, "181.5 pounds! Take it or leave it." Hmm. That is lower than I had hoped.

Well, I can see that I must never get complacent. At last week's weigh-in, I was feeling pretty darn good about the month so far. Here I was within 2 pounds of my target weight all month long. In fact the ninth of February was the last time I had had a weekly weigh-in that was more than 2 pounds off from my target weight of 185.0.

Then this week my weight took a nosedive on Thursday. I was going along on a string of 6 days in a row where I weighed-in within half a pound of 185.0. I had gone 39 days in a row without having a daily weigh-in more than 2 pounds off from my target weight. So, I was surprised to see that Mr. Scale showed me weighing 180.5 on Thursday morning. Naturally I reacted by eating more that day. In fact I finished up with 54.5 points and my weight on Friday was up a pound and a half to 182.0. Almost there, I figured, and so I held back just a bit on Friday, so I wouldn't go up too much for today's weigh-in, and I (dare I say it?) only ate 45.5 points for the day. This morning, even though I weighed a bit earlier than normal in the day, I was down a half pound.

There are so many factors that change on the road. We took our own food with us for a lot of what we ate. I did not have any Kashi bars, or Mr. Cookie Face snacks while traveling. (Perhaps one or both of them are actually more points than I have been counting them for?)

I averaged about seven-tenths of a point per day less than I did the week before. That would be less than 5 total points down for the week. I don't think that 5 points would cause a 4-pound drop in weight. Perhaps other factors were involved. My digestive track may have responded to outside factors in a way that was a bit different than normal. My level of exercise and stress were other than normal. (Monday and Tuesday were very active and demanding, Wednesday through Friday were more relaxed.)

I did not get a lot of walking, at least timed walking, into my days. I was on my feet some each day but I did not get much heavy exercise. I have been working on building up my daily pushup count for a little extra exercise, but that has not been a big factor yet at all.

The big question for me is: is there something that is happening on the road that causes weight loss, or is there something at home that I am leaving behind that is normally causing weight gain when I am there. If there is something at home that I am eating or doing that is causing me to gain weight, I would like to identify it, so I can properly count or control it in the future. Perhaps a little experimentation is in order, where I try eliminating something for a while and see what affect it has?

This week in books

Well, I didn't get a chance to listen to too much to my second listening of the The Fellowship of the Ring this week. I expect to make more progress through it next week when my driving patterns will be back to normal again.

The only book I read this week was a very political one that was over 400 pages long, and which I finished and enjoyed. However, I will not bring it to the board to avoid any hurt sensitive feelings of members of the opposing point of view from the one taken in the book. :^)

I didn't even pick up The Delta Factor this week, other than to put it into my suitcase and then to take it back out again. :^) Maybe I will get back to it this coming week.

The same is true of The Winds of Darkover. My schedule was definitely disrupted this week. A new week awaits me.

322 days OP, a lifetime to follow.
