Week 182 Update

I woke up at 06:15—41 minutes before sunrise—and stepped up on Mr. Scale. He promptly said, "185.0 pounds!"

The temperatures have dropped this week. This morning it is 37º, and yesterday Dotti had to scrape frost off her windshield in the morning.

The flu has grabbed onto our household and doesn't want to let go. Dotti has been fighting it for over a week, and I came down with it on Thursday. Fevers, coughs, and aches and pains aplenty.

Mom was here still for the weekend, and Monday, before heading home on Tuesday. I had the pager, so we couldn't leave the area, and I did have to deliver a part on Saturday, which led Dotti and I over to the West side of town, while Mom was attending church on the east side. After dropping off the part, we stopped by the mall in Beaverton for a little shopping, and then headed back across town to pick Mom up. We timed it nearly perfectly: just as we were getting close, she called us to tell us she was ready for us to come and pick her up.

About the time that Mom was getting ready to return home, Dotti started coming down with flu symptoms. Dotti was stuck in bed on Tuesday, and has slowly been recovering ever since. I was feeling fairly well until Thursday morning I woke up with fever along with several other ugly symptoms. I absolutely hate calling in sick for work, but sometimes you have no choice. Friday I wasn't doing much better, so I missed two days this week.

As for my weight control journey, things went along pretty much the same this week. All of my weigh-ins for the week were at or below 185.0 pounds. My eating ranged from 79.5 points on Saturday, down to 38.5 on Thursday.

Saturday, after weighing in at 185.0, turned out to be one of my higher point days. I splurged and had 2 cookies at Subway, along with my 6" sub, and later at Red Robin I had a chocolate shake. My meal points totaled 64.0, and after a few snacks I was up to 79.5.

I had only eaten 32.0 points on Friday, so when the scale dropped on Sunday it was not a terrible shock, even after the high point Saturday. I weighed 183.5. But I know that my body will pay me back for the high point day if I am not careful, so I only ate 40.0 points.

Monday I was back to 185.0 pounds. This was going to be Mom's last day of her visit, and since she loves Sweet Tomatoes, we took her there. I had a big meal and 26.0 points later I was feeling very full. By day's end I had eaten 54.0 points.

Tuesday I weighed in at 184.0 pounds. As I usually try to do after going a bit higher than normal on one day, I ate only 39.5 points.

On Wednesday, I weighed 184.0 again. We decided to go to our favorite diner for dinner and I had my normal roast beast (beef ) meal. It came to 19.0 points and at the end of the day I had eaten 40.5 points.

Thursday I weighed 184.5, and felt very bad. I stayed home. I ate my normal 5.0 point breakfast, plus a few additional items (including a banana and an apple), for a total of 10.0 points. Dotti had made my lunch for me in the morning, before we realized that I was not going to be able to make it to work. So, at lunch I ate that for another 10.0 points. I had 7.0 points for dinner, and snacked another 11.5 points during the day. I ended up eating 38.5 points.

Friday, I was still feeling bad. I weighed 183.5, and so, although I ate my normal breakfast, I went higher for lunch, having a couple of cheese enchiladas, and some cottage cheese and fruit: 14.0 points. I had 8.5 points for dinner, but I snacked 19.5 points during the day. Final total for the day came to 47.0 points.

That brought me to this morning, and my 185.0-pound weigh-in.

For exercise, I was very happy with how I ended October with 152.9 miles walked for the month. That moved my total miles for the year up to 978.0 and put me in great position to reach my goal of 1,200 miles by year's end.

I continued on track on Monday morning, walking 3.17 miles in the morning before work. It was at a good pace (4.2 mph), but at lunch I didn't feel much like walking.

On Tuesday I was not feeling right, and I didn't walk at all. Wednesday I tried to get back on track. In the morning it was 36º, and all I could manage was 1.0 mile. At lunch I took the 3.17-mile loop to try and get an extra mile in. However, by the evening I was not feeling great, and I didn't walk at home.

Thursday and Friday I was down for the count and didn't do any walking.

So, for the week I only got in 10.39 miles, and instead of breaking 1000 for the year, I stalled at 985.4 miles.

I got in at least 6 cups of water every day, and averaged 61.71 ounces (7.7cups) per day, definitely in the 6 to 8 cup window.

Overall, I am happy that I got done what I did, and don't feel bad at all about the rest. When you are ill, your focus has to be on getting well. I weighed in inside my target range, and I drank my water. I did what exercise I could, and that will just have to do. We'll see how next week goes.

3 years, 179 days OP; a lifetime to follow.
