Week 104 Update

I slept in until 06:00 this morning and the sun was already brightening the sky, with the temperature sitting at 47°F. Mr. Scale said, “181.0 pounds!” when I stepped up on him. After two of the busiest weeks I have had in a quite some time, one pound up from my target weight is not too bad.

My last update was done Saturday morning from our room at the Heathman Lodge, before the activities of the day had begun. It seems like a lifetime ago! Since then we have had 3 more conference sessions, a walk to the top of Multnomah Falls with many of the conference attendees, the official close of the conference, a dinner cruise on the Willamette River, check out from the hotel, and moving back over to our house again (we had a tremendous amount of stuff to transport), a fun day-outing to Mt. St. Helens, days of uploading pictures to the web page, Dotti’s bowling banquet, and finally having an afternoon to ourselves on Thurday. Friday we had an enjoyable day driving around with LeRoy, hitting a lot of the high tech companies handing out resumes. I haven’t felt completely rested for over a week and a half, but I am slowly catching up. Dotti finally had a good night’s sleep on Thursday, but she still looked very tired yesterday when we were driving around. She has gotten a good night sleep again last night and I hope she will feel better today.

Eating this week was an interesting proposition. Saturday and Sunday morning, we had our meals at the conference. Saturday I ate 26.5 points of melons, muffins, bagels, roast beef, fruit, potatoes, vegetables and other goodies, as well as 14.0 points worth of snacks in the room. Sunday morning I weighed 182.0. I ate 64.0 points on Sunday, including my 35.5-point meal on the Portland Spirit dinner cruise. (That hazelnut cheesecake was divine!) Monday morning I weighed 181.0. I had 48.0 points, including a 31.5-point farewell breakfast/lunch with Jim and Tammy at Sharis. On Tuesday I weighed 179.5. We drove to Mt. St. Helens and my eating was less than perfect for the day. My total points were only 36.0, but I ate a lot of it in junk points. I had a coffee with creamer, White Chocolate Mocha, and Just 2 point bar for breakfast. Then we didn’t get to lunch until late. I had a Subway sandwich, but since my points were low and my weight was also that morning, I grabbed a 9.0-point ice-cream drumstick. I had a breakfast cookie another cup of coffee (I lived on coffee this week to keep my eyes open) and other snacks. On Wednesday, I weighed 180.0. I ate in a more normal fashion that day, and my points ended up at 39.5. Thursday I weighed 180.5. I ate 51.0 points, including a 17.0 points dinner at Sharis. Friday my weight jumped up to 182.5. I ended up eating a really great Mexican dinner at a restaurant in Hillsboro, Oregon for lunch for 22.0 points. Since it was extremely filling and we ate it fairly late, I didn’t have an evening meal at all. My total points for the day came to 37.5. I also drank 16 cups of water, and last night I stepped on the scale before bed and it said 187.5. I was up and down an awful lot last night getting rid of all that water, but I was happy with the results this morning at weigh-in.

Exercise was also different than normal for this week. Much of my exercise was not timed or measured well, and so I didn’t get any aerobic points for it, but I definitely was on the move for many of the days. Saturday and Sunday I ran up the stairs at the Heathman Lodge from the first floor to the fourth floor numerous times. On Saturday I walked with the others a mile up to the top of Multnomah falls (the falls are about 611 feet tall, and the path goes well over the top of the falls, probably about 700 feet total rise at the top from our starting point). It took our group about 30 minutes to reach the top. I hung around taking pictures for quite a while and then headed back down. It was faster on the down trip, maybe it took 20 minutes. To calculate aerobic points I estimated the walk up as the equivalent of playing basketball for 30 minutes. Between the up trip and the down trip I estimated 7.0 aerobic points.

Sunday after the official close of the conference, Tom and I took a 4 mile walk around the neighborhood of the hotel. We cover the ground, and a lot of conversation, in 1 hour, 1 minute, and 27 seconds. (10.62 aerobic points).

That night we all walked around the riverfront area in Portland a bit, and then boarded the Portland Spirit for our dinner cruise. We walked around the ship some for a bit of exercise.

On Monday we checked out of the Heathman Lodge, and it was time to load up our stuff and move it back home in the van. We had a lot of things to move and there definitely was some exercise involved with moving it at both ends -- especially at home, because I couldn't use a cart to move it.

Tuesday, at the volcano, I did a lot of walking. I ran up to the top of a view point (and later back down) at one of the information centers to get some pictures of the others, and then walked to the top of another viewpoint at the main center. I felt like we had covered some ground when it was all over at the end of the day. But I couldn’t count any aerobic points for it. Wednesday I mostly spent on the computer uploading pictures from the conference. Dotti had some obligations to attend to, and so I didn’t see much of her that day. Thursday I got the rest of the pictures up in the morning, and then in the afternoon, Dotti and broke loose and went out for a while, just the two of us. We got some walking in and relaxed. Friday we spent most of the day in the car. We did not get much exercise.

For water this week I felt I did pretty well. I averaged 69.71 ounces (8.7 cups) per day, and never had less than 6 cups on any single day.

1 year, 363 days OP; a lifetime to follow.
