It’s 2:26 am and I’m wide awake. That’s the way it’s been for a couple weeks now. My days and nights are mixed up. The bummer is that as Al is going to bed, I’m getting up.
I guess I better get my sleep schedule back on track since I now have to report to work on Sunday, Jan 24th, 7-4 pm, in my wheelchair. Yes, I’ll be sitting at the front door, at a table (read “desk duty”) greeting the customers and handing out samples. Don’t get me wrong, I love people and I’m good at this job, but I just am not happy about doing it in my wheelchair. I only have 20 more days till I get the screws out of my ankle and can step on my right leg. Why they couldn’t give me the last 20 days (of three months) at home where I’m comfortable in the wheelchair, I don’t know. Workmans Comp – gotta love them.
I’ve been keeping busy at home getting restaurants ready for the Smart Points update. Al then uses his magic with our restaurant database to convert the files. It’s a big project that will take time. I missed my dinner out with the girls last night. Yesterday I was feeling horrible and slept most of the day hoping to feel better by 4 pm. It didn’t happen so I had to cancel. I was bummed. Hopefully we can have another.
Well, that seems to be my life in a nutshell. I’m so looking forward to going to the beach at the end of February.
First, a very big Happy Birthdayto our son, Glenn, who celebrated on the 7th and to my little brother Rip, who celebrated on the 11th. Two wonderful men in my life.
Al and I are planning a beach getaway February 22nd – 25th. Rockaway is our favorite Oregon Coast spot and we got our favorite room too. Rip is coming with us so it will be extra-nice. We have an adjacent room with queen bed and bath and reserved that for Rip. We have our own kitchenette so will bring our own food. Looking forward to Rip cooking us up some great steaks.
I really needed something to look forward to, after being laid up for 3 months, and I think this fits the bill. It’s been a long time since we’ve been to the coast. I’m hoping my leg will be moving pretty good by then (screws come out on the 10th). If not, I have two strong men to help me up the stairs.
Nothing much happening here except looking forward to Feb 10th.
As for the Smart Points on my website, DWLZ.com, I’ll be adding Smart Points to new foods, restaurants, and recipes from now on. I will continue to also add the Winning Points and the Points Plus Points. They will always remain on my site. Al and I will slowly be adding Smart Points as we update the restaurants already on DWLZ.
Hope everyone is having a good January. Our weather has not been too cold and the rain has slowed down.
Our awesome grandchildren ~ Justin, Sarah, Jacob, Emily and Kai. They fill our hearts.
WOW, I can’t believe how fast 2015 went by. 2016 has got to be a better year than 2015.
We were welcomed with a new grandson, Jacob Matthew Coon, on October 2, 2015. He is just gorgeous and reminds me so much of LeRoy when he was a baby. We have not been able to meet him yet but have done some Skypes. Emily just loves her little brother.
2015 was a year of work injuries for me. Early in the year, in the Deli Dept, I hurt my back, which gave me discomfort for a month. I showed up at work everyday and worked through it. Next, on May 26th, I sliced the side tip of my right thumb on the slicer. I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding so had to go into Urgent Care. Luckily they did not have to cauterize it but it was close. I stayed injury-free until August 22nd when my feet came out from under me and dropped me to the floor, pushing my left foot under a flatbed cart, twisting my calf. I broke my left fibula just below the knee. I was out of work, then on light duty for a couple of months. I transferred to the Seafood Dept. On November 17th I slipped on a piece of ice and broke my right leg at the ankle (tibia) and the fibula just below the knee (same place as the left leg), pulling the ligament holding the fibula and tibia in place. Yep, I did a good job this time. The ambulance and fire department came and took me away to the hospital. I had this accident just as I was closing out my broken left leg. On November 18th I had my last appointment for my left leg.
This last accident on November 17th was so bad. On November 20th, I had two screws put into my ankle to keep the bones together while the ligament heals. Three months of no stepping on the right leg. I had a small wheelchair (4 small tires) that I use in the house. We had to get a bigger one (with the big wheel and leg supports) for traveling outside the house. Let me tell you, that is an adventure in itself, especially with all the rain we’ve been getting here. The electric carts are another adventure. I’ve been
There is finally an end in sight. I have an ortho appointment on February 10th to take the screws out. I’ll then be able to step on my right leg again. I’ve been doing flexing exercises at the ankle to help the healing process. I’ve lost a lot of muscle in my calf; at least a fourth of it. Plenty of work ahead of me but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Once I can keep steady on my leg with just a cane, I’ll be getting back to light duty. I’m thinking I’m going to have to use my walker until I get that calf muscle moving again.
The PT that I’m planning to use is attached to my gym building so that will be nice. I put my gym membership on hold until February 1st, which works out nicely. I’m anxious to get in the pool and start my water aerobics. Heck, I’m just anxious to get moving again.
Al has been by my side through all of this. He is a great caregiver and is always trying to cheer me up and making my life these last couple of months as nice as possible. He is the best medicine of all. He knows I’ve been
Al and I really missed seeing all the Christmas lights and celebrating Christmas with our own decorations. We spent a quiet Thanksgiving at home. I’m not up to much cooking so we ate simply. We had Christmas day dinner at my nieces house in Sandy, OR. The prime rib was wonderful. We got to see our great-niece, Sophie, who has grown so much.
I’m looking forward to getting back to work at Fred Meyer. I’ll be back in the Seafood Dept, which I love. I miss everyone at work. Some of my friends, from the Deli Dept, and I have been meeting once a month for dinner. We’ve been trying different restaurants and the night out has been good for my spirits.
