About Me

About Me

Hi!  Welcome to my first blog.  My name is Dotti and I am the owner and webmistress of Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone aka DWLZ.  I created my website on September 20, 1998, after I hit my goal with Weight Watchers.  I love Weight Watchers and always have.  They have taught me so much, especially to enjoy eating the healthy way.  It’s hard to believe Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone has been around since 1998.

A lot has happened since that day I created Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone.  My weight has been up and down a lot but I never gave up wanting the healthy lifestyle and to be at a healthy weight.  It’s kept me going all these years.  In 2011, June and September, I had both my hips replaced.  I had an excellent doctor in Spokane, WA and I recovered quickly from the surgery with no complications.

While in Spokane, I was taking care of Als Mom, Betty, who had Alzheimers.   Between taking care of Mom, recovering from my two hip surgeries, and losing a best friend, I fell into a deep depression which lasted until 2013.  In August of 2012, Al and I had to pack up again and move; the owner of our rental house was not paying his mortgage with the money we were paying him.  He was keeping it for himself.  He was in arrears for two years and lost the house, to be auctioned off in December.  We did not want to move in the winter.  We couldn’t find a house we wanted in Spokane so we made the very hard decision to move back to the place we call home, Vancouver, WA.  Having to leave my son, LeRoy and his family, our grandchildren and daughter-in-law, behind in Spokane was very hard.  This was something Al and I had to do to get our lives back and get me out of this depression.

We settled into our new home, found new doctors, and have been enjoying being back home.  Als Mom passed away in Spokane soon after we moved.  I was so happy that Al made it back up there to hold her hand while she passed quietly in her sleep.  My doctor changed my prescription and I started to feel a bit better.  I’ll tell you, it’s been a rough couple of years with too many life-changing events taking place in our lives in such a short time.

My plan is to make 2014 my year to get back to my goal weight and continue on this healthy lifestyle.  I’m off to a good start.  I started tracking, exercising, and carefully watching what I ate, in September 2013.  I’ve been going strong ever since.  My favorite exercise machine is the elliptical.  My favorite outdoor activity, when weather allows, is hiking.  We have some beautiful places here in the Pacific Northwest.  The Columbia River Gorge is absolutely breathtaking.

I want to take this time to thank all of you for your continued love and support.  You have really helped me through these last years.  Please know that you have all made a difference in my life.

2014 is my year ~ why not make it yours too!  I’m standing beside you and rooting you on.

  1. And I want to thank you and Al for your continued love and support. Your website and message board had given me friendship, support, encouragement in SO many ways and love for all these years. Can’t imagine life without you and all the Zonies. ((BIG HUGS)) So happy to watch you “take back” your life! Yes, I’m grinning as I type this. Love you Dotti.

  2. What an incredible resource!! It is very valuable for me to have the points plus calculated on so many restaurants! Thanks!!

  3. Hi, Dotti,

I’ve just started back with Weight Watchers, after many years of overeating. I did WW back in 2008 and got down to my goal weight. It felt SO good! While I was on WW, I used your site a LOT, but I never took the time to write and let you know how VERY much I appreciate you and all you have done to help those of us on WW to succeed. So I want to do that now…THANK YOU!! Your site was a tremendous help to me 8 years ago, and I know that it will be a great help now. I’m sorry to hear of all your trials. I guess the only excuse I have for regaining my weight is that I did not handle Maintenance well. For me, it seems to be all or nothing! But I’m back on the wagon again now, and with the help of the Lord (and your website!), I’m going to get back to my goal weight…and stay there this time! 🙂

    Thanks again!

  4. After an extended time of ups and down and being frustrated, depressed and whathaveyou, I am committed to getting back with the program. I’m so pleased your website is still online. It was very helpful in the past and I can’t thank you enough for all the work you have put into the information you provide. It is invaluable. I can only imagine the countess hours you have put into the website. I’m glad you still continue to fight the fight and inspire others. Your truthfulness about your struggles resonate with all of us who find ourselves in similar circumstances. Again, Many thanks. I’ll be reviewing all the categories. Thank you for having continued listing the original point system values. That is the plan I followed when I had good success and that is what I want to be able to continue using. Your system showing the different plan points values make it easy for me to get back on track. Again, many thanks!

    1. You are most welcome Mary Alice. I created this website in September 1998 to help others on this Lifetime Journey. I continue to keep it updated for all of us. I, too, use the original Points plan as that is the one I made it to goal with in 1998. I want to see goal again. Why is it so easy to gain weight but so hard to lose it? I think, because it is 99% in your head and 1% in your actions. If you’re not committed you will never succeed. In 1998, when I made goal, you could’ve given me a million dollars to go off program and I would not of taken it. I need to find that commitment again; and I will. Good luck on your Journey and I’ll be rooting for you. HUGS
