Moving On Up to Spokane

Moving On Up to Spokane

It looks like I’ve disappeared for the last five months.  Time sure flies when your life has been turned upside down.  As you can see from the the title of this post, Al and I are now back in Spokane.

After my work injury to my right leg (ankle broke, stripped tendons & broken upper leg) I ended up having to leave the job in July.  I am still having issues.  I was depressed most of the year recovering from that accident. Along with losing my job, our income level has decreased.  The housing in Vancouver, WA is out of control and we could no longer afford even the cheaper apartment we moved to.  At the beginning of October, my brother, Bob, offered us his upstairs bedroom until we could get back on our feet.  We used this time to save some money to get moved up to Spokane, where our son and grandchildren are AND the rent is so much cheaper.  We are paying much less for our apartment, and everything else for that matter.  It all helps.

Due to the move here and our change in our circumstances, I have had to move DWLZ and the Message Board, to a much cheaper server in order to keep it online. Please know we will do everything we can to keep it online and available to all who need it and have found a home here. If you would like to help support this effort, please visit my Support page. Thank you.  I would like to thank all of you who have already sent in your support.  It is very much appreciated.

I am hoping to get back to updating my website and continuing to convert the restaurants nutritional info to Smart Points, while keeping the Points+ and Winning Points.

It’s time to get back on my wight loss journey.  I have been pulling back on my food intake and am slowly losing a bit of weight.  It’s time to kick it into high gear and getting back to tracking and getting some exercise in.  I have no excuse in the exercise department.  We have a gym here at the apartments which have ellipticals and treadmills that I can use at no charge.  Our snow is finally melting and hopefully Spring is just around the corner. Now to get moving.

Al and I are having a wonderful time getting reacquainted with our grandchildren. It’s so nice being in the same town as them.  Emily has already had a sleepover and let me tell you, that girl has stolen Grandpas heart (and mine too).  Jake is so much like my LeRoy was as a baby.  He looks a lot like him and it seems everything he does brings back fond memories.  Some of you will recognize Multnomah Falls behind LeRoy and the kids.

I want to personally thank you all for standing by me during all my life changes throughout the years. Life has thrown Al and I a few punches but you’ve always been by my side supporting me. I cannot even begin to tell you how much that means to me.  Leaving you with my New Years resolution.

Here’s to a great 2017!  Let’s make it a good year.

  1. Thank you for this wonderful site! I can’t imagine how hard that was. I broke just my ankle in June and thought that was awful. Glad you’re back and hope it all continues well.

  2. I’m trying to loose weight on my own. Don’t know about the point system but have an idea. I read this is a good site. I also joined the WW FB group to learn and get recipes and above all have support from Luke minded people.
Sorry you had these challenges but happy to read the joy you have found in WA. Take it one day st a time.

  3. Great to see you back Dottie! Glad you are back with your son and grandchildren. Thanks for all your hard work on this site. I used it a lot a few years ago and haven’t been back for a while. I finally wrote down the site name now hopefully I won’t forget it!!! Praying this year brings lots and lots of blessings to you.

  4. Hey Dottie, Sorry to hear you have a rough go of things! I have been working through Trim Healthy Mama and it is just not working for me. I am ready to try weight watchers as I see others on you tube seeing success with that. Do you use the original points program? From things i have read it seems like old-timer ww like it best for results. Do you agree? I think calories matter to my body. Things like Atkins, etc just don’t work for me because (I think) the calories are too high and I am almost 50 now! I really appreciate your thoughts on original points system. I will be doing it on my own, with the help of pinterest, FB and recipes and calculators online–just doing my best. Thanks and blessings on you-Liz

    1. I do like the Original 123 Points program. I do cap my fiber at 4 grams. Please email me at: DottiDWLZ dot com and I will be happy to send you a calculator for offline use. If you do, please put Blog reader in the subject line. A lot of my recipes are calculated to the Original and Winning Points (4g fiber cap). Good luck on your Journey! I’ll be rooting for you.
