September Already? I Love the Fall Season.

Hope this post finds all of you having a great Labor Day weekend.  Al and I are staying in, not doing anything special.  Vancouver is having some great cool weather this week, which I love.  Fall is my favorite time of the year.

LeRoy, Rachel and the kids made a surprise visit at the end of August.  It was a quick but fun visit.  This is the first time we’ve met our grandson, Jake.  Emily is now almost 5 years old and getting so “grown up”.  What a joy it was having special time with her.  She takes after me, very talkative and loves people.  Jake, who is 11 months now, reminds me so much of my LeRoy when he was little.  He’s very easy-going, loves to eat, and is so cuddly.  He loves to give a lot of kisses.  They both have birthdays in October, Jakes is October 2nd, and Emilys is October 7th (same as my brother Bob.  Mine is October 5th (going to be the big 60 this year).  It looks like we are racking up October birthdays!

I’ve been keeping busy for the last month updating our restaurants to Smart Points.  I have 153 restaurants completed.  You can find all my DWLZ updates at:  http://www.dwlz.com/DWLZupdates.html

Getting back on track on my Journey to a healthy weight has not been easy, to say the least.  But… who said it was going to be easy.  I’m not giving up; it is never an option.  I need to take little steps back to my healthy lifestyle, one step at a time.  It’s so easy to get discouraged on this Journey.

My leg injury is healing slowly.  It still hurts a bit to step completely on my foot and my ankle aches at night but it’s all part of the healing process, I’m told.  I’m off Workmans Comp and not working at Fred Meyer anymore.  I’m moving on with my life.  It’s hard to believe I worked for Fred Meyer from October 14, 2014 to July 2016 and for the last year I cut my finger in the deli, broke my left leg in the deli, and finally broke my right leg in the cooler in the seafood department.  The latest was a horrible accident, leaving my right ankle broke, ripping all my tissue up my leg to another break on my upper fibia.  I guess going to work was a bad idea.  🙁

Al has been busy writing a book, his passion for a very long time.  He has written a book of Five Short Stories, which is now on Amazon.  If you are interested, you can find it on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Mind-Magic-Five-Stories-You-ebook/dp/B01N7V1SP5?_encoding=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0  Feedback is always welcome.

Fall is upon us, along with pumpkin lattes & pies, and all the wonderful aromas of the Fall season.  I’m loving the cooler temps and not running my A/C.  Al and I hope to get to the zoo sometime soon.  It’s been way too long.

Hopefully, it won’t be so long between my posts.  The months seem to be passing by way too quickly.  Have an awesome day!

Walking Again ~ I Want It Now

Good evening my friends.

My surgery on February 10th to get my screws removed from my ankle went well.  I was told I could walk with my walker and in my boot.  When I first tried to step down on the foot I was surprised it hurt so very much and that I couldn’t even come close to stepping completely on the foot.  Discouragement set in.  Now, almost 2 weeks later, I have seen a lot of progress.  I’m walking faster with my walker but still not stepping completely down on my foot.  I tried to take a step with my cane and it was a no-go for now.  🙁  I have an appointment on February 23rd to get my stitches out.  I will then get a referral for PT.  Hopefully Workman’s Comp will give me enough sessions to start walking on my own again.

Happy New Year 2016

Our awesome grandchildren ~ Justin, Sarah, Jacob, Emily and Kai.  They fill our hearts.

Grandkids Dec 2015

WOW, I can’t believe how fast 2015 went by.  2016 has got to be a better year than 2015.

We were welcomed with a new grandson, Jacob Matthew Coon, on October 2, 2015.  He is just gorgeous and reminds me so much of LeRoy when he was a baby.  We have not been able to meet him yet but have done some Skypes.  Emily just loves her little brother.

Jacobs Arrival ~ Oct 2, 2015

Jacobs Arrival ~ Oct 2, 2015 ~ with Emily, Sarah, & LeRoy

2015 was a year of work injuries for me. Early in the year, in the Deli Dept, I hurt my back, which gave me discomfort for a month.  I showed up at work everyday and worked through it.  Next, on May 26th, I sliced the side tip of my right thumb on the slicer.  I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding so had to go into Urgent Care.  Luckily they did not have to cauterize it but it was close.   I stayed injury-free until August 22nd when my feet came out from under me and dropped me to the floor, pushing my left foot under a flatbed cart, twisting my calf.  I broke my left fibula just brokenlegcatbelow the knee.  I was out of work, then on light duty for a couple of months.  I transferred to the Seafood Dept.   On November 17th I slipped on a piece of ice and broke my right leg at the ankle (tibia) and the fibula just below the knee (same place as the left leg), pulling the ligament holding the fibula and tibia in place.    Yep, I did a good job this time.  The ambulance and fire department came and took me away to the hospital.  I had this accident just as I was closing out my broken left leg.  On November 18th I had my last appointment for my left leg.

This last accident on November 17th was so bad.  On November 20th, I had two screws put into my ankle to keep the bones together while the ligament heals. Three months of no stepping on the right leg.  I had a small wheelchair (4 small tires) that I use in the house.  We had to get a bigger one (with the big wheel and leg supports) for traveling outside the house.  Let me tell you, that is an adventure in itself, especially with all the rain we’ve been getting here. The electric carts are another adventure.  I’ve been

There is finally an end in sight.  I have an ortho appointment on February 10th to take the screws out.  I’ll then be able to step on my right leg again.  I’ve been doing flexing exercises at the ankle to help the healing process.  I’ve lost a lot of muscle in my calf; at least a fourth of it.  Plenty of work ahead of me but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  Once I can keep steady on my leg with just a cane, I’ll be getting back to light duty.  I’m thinking I’m going to have to use my walker until I get that calf muscle moving again.

The PT that I’m planning to use is attached to my gym building so that will be nice.  I put my gym membership on hold until February 1st, which works out nicely.  I’m anxious to get in the pool and start my water aerobics.  Heck, I’m just anxious to get moving again.

DotAlDec2015Al has been by my side through all of this.  He is a great caregiver and is always trying to cheer me up and making my life these last couple of months as nice as possible.  He is the best medicine of all.  He knows I’ve been  fightingdepression

Al and I really missed seeing all the Christmas lights and celebrating Christmas with our own decorations.  We spent a quiet Thanksgiving at home.  I’m not up to much cooking so we ate simply.  We had Christmas day dinner at my nieces house in Sandy, OR.  The prime rib was wonderful.  We got to see our great-niece, Sophie, who has grown so much.GirlsDinnerOut4

I’m looking forward to getting back to work at Fred Meyer.  I’ll be back in the Seafood Dept, which I love.  I miss everyone at work.  Some of my friends, from the Deli Dept, and I have been meeting once a month for dinner.  We’ve been trying different restaurants and the night out has been good for my spirits.

So, that has been my year in a nutshell.  I hope all of you have a wonderful, healthy, 2016.  I will make every effort to stay in touch more.
