Merry Christmas From Our House to Yours ~ 2017

Merry Christmas From Our House to Yours ~ 2017

Can you believe it is near the end of 2017?  It seems the older I get the faster time goes.  It’s been a busy last 6 months since I last posted.  Note to self:  I must get better at posting more often.

The Grandkids have grown so much over this year, as you can see from the above photos.  Our oldest grandson, Kai, who is 19 years old, has grown into a fine young man.  I’m sure the girls are swooning all over him.  We don’t get to see him much as he lives in Japan with his Dad.  We miss them a lot.

Emily and Jake had a lot of fun this past summer.  Emily found a huge slug in the backyard.  She was so enthralled with it.  It certainly was the biggest slug I ever saw! We both hate bugs but we also give exception to ladybugs.  Emily enjoyed them all summer long.  Emily also learned how to climb a tree in the fall and is up there every chance she gets.  Jake joined her in the tree with a little help from his Dad and Grandpa Al and boy, was it hard to get him down.  He loved it up there!

Emily started Kindergarten in September.  She loves school.  She was so excited to ride on a school bus on her field trip.  It was her first time riding on a school bus.  She just recently made “Student of the Month”.  We are so proud of her.

Al and I enjoyed having barbecues and backyard fun with Emily and Jake.  They are so full of energy.  We can’t keep up with them but boy, they leave so many smiles on our face.

For my birthday (61st) this year my son, LeRoy, brought me some beautiful flowers, took me out to lunch, and then the movie “It” which I’ve been wanting to see.  Al and LeRoy made it a beautiful day.  I loved the movie.  I do love scary movies and thrillers.

Life was pretty low key for the next couple of months.  Al and I stayed home for Thanksgiving.  Rachel’s Mom invited us over for dinner but we opted for a quiet evening at home.  Both of us ended up sick so never had the dinner but that’s okay.  We had each other.

Our 1st snow was on Nov 6th this year.

Emily had a sleepover here on December 9th and we had a blast those two days.  We went to McDonald’s for lunch so she could play inside.  It was very cold those days.  Grandpa took her to the park the next morning.  Grandma went for the warmer playground.

After McDonald’s Emily and I headed up the street to visit a couple of reindeer that arrived in Spokane the day before.  She loved them!

We headed home soon after.  Al set up our tree and I fluffed it out and added the lights.  Emily was now ready to decorate the tree.  She did the whole tree and it came out beautiful.  It’s our new family tradition, having Emily and Jake, when he gets older, decorate our tree.  We listened to Christmas music and love was in the air. Grandpa Al hit the sack early.  He usually goes to bed between 7 and 8 pm and gets up very early in the morning.  Emily always tucks him in, giving him a kiss goodnight and putting out the light.  It’s so sweet!

The next morning Grandpa took her to the park.  It was rather cold and there were no kids there so they came home early.  Emily and I spent the rest of the days making sugar cookies.  Emily liked playing in the dough and flour.  We made enough cookies for her to take some home.

Jake got to spend the day with Grandma recently.  He is such a joy to be around.  At two years old he is quite the smart little boy.  When I spend time in the kitchen doing dishes Jake always grabs his little stool and sets it in front of the sink.  He loves to play in the water.  He knocks on Grandpa’s study to get him to play foosball with him.  He is getting the hang of the game really fast.  He loves foosball, and Grandpa, of course.  He is just staring to enjoy doing some puzzles and he yells yahoo! when he gets the pieces in place.

Al and I are heading over to LeRoy’s for Christmas Day dinner.  It will be a low-key day with just them and us.  Rachel celebrates with her family on Christmas Eve.  I’ll be watching Jake for a bit today while LeRoy goes to a teacher conference with Emily.  Afterwards he’ll drop Emily off for some time with Grandma making goodies for Christmas Day.  Mom and Dad have to do some shopping at Costco so the kids being here will make it easier for them.

I hope all of you will be having a wonderful Christmas holiday with your friends and family.

Happy Anniversary & Al’s First Novel Published

Happy Anniversary & Al’s First Novel Published

Hi everyone.  On June 10, 1976 Al and I were married in Vancouver, WA.  We celebrated 41 years on June 10, 2017.  It’s been a wonderful 41 years and we look forward to many more. We met it September 1974, the year I graduated.

I am doing okay on getting back on track with my Program.  I was doing really good staying off the Diet Dr. Pepper but have slipped the past couple of days.  I will get back on track with that.  I still haven’t started walking yet but the grandkids and grocery shopping helps me get some exercise.  Hopefully our pool will be getting used when the hot weather comes to stay.  I’m not journaling yet but I am trying to eat smaller portions.  My sleep is still wacko; up long stretches, sometimes 24 hours or more.  I know that is not helping me stay on Program.

Last Friday we had a wonderful BBQ at LeRoy’s house.  We were sorry that Rachel had to work and couldn’t be there.  LeRoy has the backyard beautifully landscaped with so many flowers.  He put up a new swingset for the kids, along with a sandbox – their favorite!  We had loaded hamburgers, potato salad, cheddar sausage, and for dessert, cherry cheesecake.  Great food, great company, and awesome grandkids!

I wish I had half of their energy. I don’t think Emily ever stopped moving.  In the third photo Jake is eating a tomato slice he stole off the plate.  He does love his tomatoes.

to my hubby Al, son LeRoy and son Glenn.  They are all great fathers.  My father has been gone since I was seven but I just know he would of been an awesome father also.  I miss him every day.

Al has finished his first novel and it’s wonderful.  It’s a love story with so much more.  I know I’m a bit prejudiced but, Al writes beautifully.  You will feel like you are right there with the characters.  If you are interested in purchasing it please click on the book graphic to the right.  You won’t be disappointed.

Tonight we are having Emily over for a sleepover and she is so excited to use her new “Frozen” suitcase we bought her for sleepovers. I have errands to run and some grocery shopping to do before we pick her up.

Have an awesome day everyone and enjoy the Summer days ahead. Take care.

Spring is Here ~ May 20, 2017

Spring is Here ~ May 20, 2017

How are all of you today?  Hope this post finds you in the best of health and having a happy Spring.  I don’t know about your weather but our weather has been rather cool for this time of year.  It actually hit 78 today and will be there for the next couple of days before going back down to 64.  Crazy weather!

I had a nice Mother’s Day with my son, LeRoy, stopping by with some beautiful flowers and heartfelt card.  Of course, a big hug went along with it.   Our Mom’s have both passed away but were in our thoughts on this day.

I’ve been busy converting more of our restaurants on DWLZ to Smart Points while keeping the Points and Points+ values.  We have 249 restaurants updated to Smart Points. 713 restaurants on site.  I have added a red heart red heart next to the restaurants that have been updated to Smart Points on the Restaurant TOC page.

My doctor will no longer be taking my medical insurance so I’ve had to change doctors.  I hate hunting down a doctor and hoping he’s a good one.  I did pick one and had my first appointment on Friday, May 19th.  Al and I both really liked him.  He was thorough and had a great sense of humor.  I’ve been dizzy with the room spinning a lot and he said it is most likely vertigo; not fun.  My blood pressure was unusually high both times it was taken but I’m sure it’s from being nervous going to a new doctor.  The doctor wasn’t concerned.  Just in case, I didn’t eat or drink anything if blood work needed to be done.  I did end up getting my blood work done.  The doctor also said that I have sleep apnea and I agree.  He said he couldn’t see the back of my throat.  I am always tired still when I wake up in the morning.  My orthopedic surgeon who put the screws in my right ankle also stated I had sleep apnea.  The sleep test is expensive so will have to save up for it.  I’m sure I need a c-pap.  We pay cash for everything, so we wait on that test.  I have a mammogram scheduled for May 25th.  I think I’ll be happy with this doctor and he’s at a large clinic which has a lab, xray, and Urgent Care.  On top of that, it’s very close to my apartment.  Win-Win.

Between Emily and I being sick and us not having to watch the kids for a couple hours a day anymore, we haven’t had the kids here for awhile.  We are going to watch the kids on Tuesday while LeRoy and Rachel go on a date.  With them both working at Fred Meyers, they seldom get the same day off.  Emily will spend the night and LeRoy will pick up Jake after their movie and dinner.

To the left:  Jake and Odie waiting for Daddy to come home.

I was busy today doing some things that needed doing for awhile.  I have put blackout drapes in my living room and dining room to keep it cooler in here.  The sun hits those windows (big picture windows) all afternoon.  There is no A/C in those rooms but we do have A/C in Al’s study and our bedroom.  We run a fan down the hallway and get some cool air that way.

I’m so sick and tired of being overweight that I must do something about it, and soon.  I want to enjoy my grandkids.  I need to lose weight to protect my hips that were replaced in 2011.  I’m going to be more diligent about drinking all my water and making better food choices.  I also need to start tracking again to keep track of my eating.
