Spring is Here ~ May 20, 2017

Spring is Here ~ May 20, 2017

How are all of you today?  Hope this post finds you in the best of health and having a happy Spring.  I don’t know about your weather but our weather has been rather cool for this time of year.  It actually hit 78 today and will be there for the next couple of days before going back down to 64.  Crazy weather!

I had a nice Mother’s Day with my son, LeRoy, stopping by with some beautiful flowers and heartfelt card.  Of course, a big hug went along with it.   Our Mom’s have both passed away but were in our thoughts on this day.

I’ve been busy converting more of our restaurants on DWLZ to Smart Points while keeping the Points and Points+ values.  We have 249 restaurants updated to Smart Points. 713 restaurants on site.  I have added a red heart red heart next to the restaurants that have been updated to Smart Points on the Restaurant TOC page.

My doctor will no longer be taking my medical insurance so I’ve had to change doctors.  I hate hunting down a doctor and hoping he’s a good one.  I did pick one and had my first appointment on Friday, May 19th.  Al and I both really liked him.  He was thorough and had a great sense of humor.  I’ve been dizzy with the room spinning a lot and he said it is most likely vertigo; not fun.  My blood pressure was unusually high both times it was taken but I’m sure it’s from being nervous going to a new doctor.  The doctor wasn’t concerned.  Just in case, I didn’t eat or drink anything if blood work needed to be done.  I did end up getting my blood work done.  The doctor also said that I have sleep apnea and I agree.  He said he couldn’t see the back of my throat.  I am always tired still when I wake up in the morning.  My orthopedic surgeon who put the screws in my right ankle also stated I had sleep apnea.  The sleep test is expensive so will have to save up for it.  I’m sure I need a c-pap.  We pay cash for everything, so we wait on that test.  I have a mammogram scheduled for May 25th.  I think I’ll be happy with this doctor and he’s at a large clinic which has a lab, xray, and Urgent Care.  On top of that, it’s very close to my apartment.  Win-Win.

Between Emily and I being sick and us not having to watch the kids for a couple hours a day anymore, we haven’t had the kids here for awhile.  We are going to watch the kids on Tuesday while LeRoy and Rachel go on a date.  With them both working at Fred Meyers, they seldom get the same day off.  Emily will spend the night and LeRoy will pick up Jake after their movie and dinner.

To the left:  Jake and Odie waiting for Daddy to come home.

I was busy today doing some things that needed doing for awhile.  I have put blackout drapes in my living room and dining room to keep it cooler in here.  The sun hits those windows (big picture windows) all afternoon.  There is no A/C in those rooms but we do have A/C in Al’s study and our bedroom.  We run a fan down the hallway and get some cool air that way.

I’m so sick and tired of being overweight that I must do something about it, and soon.  I want to enjoy my grandkids.  I need to lose weight to protect my hips that were replaced in 2011.  I’m going to be more diligent about drinking all my water and making better food choices.  I also need to start tracking again to keep track of my eating.

Heading Into Warmer Weather

Heading Into Warmer Weather

Good evening everyone!  I’m up way too late but wanted to stop in and visit with you a bit.  First, I’d like to share some photos of my grandkids.  They sure have put a lot of smiles on our faces.  Emily says the funniest things.  Jake is about a year and a half so isn’t saying much yet but it won’t be long.

Al and I are going to be watching them for a 2-4 hours, 3-4 times a week.  There is some overlap when Rachel goes to work and LeRoy gets home so she’ll drop them off and LeRoy will pick them up.  We are looking forward to having the time with them.  It will be nice to see them on a more regular basis, making memories.

Tomorrow LeRoy, Rachel, Jake and I are going to the Home and Garden Show at the Convention Center.  Emily is going to have an Emily and Grandpa day.  They are really looking forward to that.  She is very close to Grandpa.  LeRoy is the Garden Center manager at Fred Meyers so he is really interested in the show.  I love these kinds of things and the exercise will be good for me.

Concerning the Message Board, I have just purchased an update to vBulletin 5 Connect (we are using v4) which says it includes chat so hopefully we will be able to bring that back soon. I”m hoping this will also fix a lot of bugs on the Message Board we acquired with the migration to the new server.

I’m really trying to hard to focus on more protein and less carbs (under 200/day).  I’m still not doing great on drinking my water, especially when there is Diet Dr. Pepper is available.  The scale has been moving in the right direction, which is a good thing.

The forecast for the next 7 days is showing us in the low 50’s during the day and above freezing at night.  Hopefully the snow will finally go away until next winter.

Time for bed.

Until next time…

Moving On Up to Spokane

Moving On Up to Spokane

It looks like I’ve disappeared for the last five months.  Time sure flies when your life has been turned upside down.  As you can see from the the title of this post, Al and I are now back in Spokane.

After my work injury to my right leg (ankle broke, stripped tendons & broken upper leg) I ended up having to leave the job in July.  I am still having issues.  I was depressed most of the year recovering from that accident. Along with losing my job, our income level has decreased.  The housing in Vancouver, WA is out of control and we could no longer afford even the cheaper apartment we moved to.  At the beginning of October, my brother, Bob, offered us his upstairs bedroom until we could get back on our feet.  We used this time to save some money to get moved up to Spokane, where our son and grandchildren are AND the rent is so much cheaper.  We are paying much less for our apartment, and everything else for that matter.  It all helps.

Due to the move here and our change in our circumstances, I have had to move DWLZ and the Message Board, to a much cheaper server in order to keep it online. Please know we will do everything we can to keep it online and available to all who need it and have found a home here. If you would like to help support this effort, please visit my Support page. Thank you.  I would like to thank all of you who have already sent in your support.  It is very much appreciated.

I am hoping to get back to updating my website and continuing to convert the restaurants nutritional info to Smart Points, while keeping the Points+ and Winning Points.

It’s time to get back on my wight loss journey.  I have been pulling back on my food intake and am slowly losing a bit of weight.  It’s time to kick it into high gear and getting back to tracking and getting some exercise in.  I have no excuse in the exercise department.  We have a gym here at the apartments which have ellipticals and treadmills that I can use at no charge.  Our snow is finally melting and hopefully Spring is just around the corner. Now to get moving.

Al and I are having a wonderful time getting reacquainted with our grandchildren. It’s so nice being in the same town as them.  Emily has already had a sleepover and let me tell you, that girl has stolen Grandpas heart (and mine too).  Jake is so much like my LeRoy was as a baby.  He looks a lot like him and it seems everything he does brings back fond memories.  Some of you will recognize Multnomah Falls behind LeRoy and the kids.

I want to personally thank you all for standing by me during all my life changes throughout the years. Life has thrown Al and I a few punches but you’ve always been by my side supporting me. I cannot even begin to tell you how much that means to me.  Leaving you with my New Years resolution.

Here’s to a great 2017!  Let’s make it a good year.
