Mount St. Helens

At an information center on the way up, there was a stump on a hill that had most of its roots exposed by the blast. Here it is sitting on the hill...

Here is Al standing at the stump after climping up the hill...

A view of Truman trail heading up the side of a hill. Tammy counted the steps and there were 445 of them to the top. We thought they would never end on the way up. After climbing Multnomah Falls earlier in the day, the muscles in my legs were starting to burn almost as soon as we started up this hill.

Mount Hood

Jim looking at the Mt. Hood crater with Mt. Jefferson, and The Three Sisters volcanoes in the background.

The Mt. Hood crater. Notice that it is has a blasted out cone, just like Mt. St. Helens does, and it has a dome, lava plug sticking up in the middle of the crater just like St. Helens. These features are older than the ones we looked at the day before on Mt. St. Helens, but there are still there.

I saw the Timberline Taxi going by, so I snapped a picture. It has a pretty good picture of the Timberline Lodge on its side.

A view of the Mt. Hood crater from inside the Timberline Lodge.

Dot and Al in front of the Mt. Hood crater, just outside the Timberline Lodge.

Dot and Al in front of the Timberline Lodge (elevation 5960 feet) on Mt. Hood (elevation 11,240 feet). If the Timberline Lodge looks familiar, you may have seen it in the movie "The Shining." All of the exterior scenes were filmed here. (The inside of the Lodge looks nothing like the interior scenes in the movie.)
