typing on computer  Good afternoon everyone.  Hope all is well in your corner of the world.  Yesterday, Al and I took a beautiful, wet walk in the snow.  Yes, snow!  I was hoping snow was gone for the year but it came down just as pretty as it could be (okay, it was gorgeous but still...) and I walked about 3 miles down to Starbucks.  (Al created the banner above from pictures he took on our walk.) I waited there with my iPad while Al walked back up the hill to our house to get the car. I got wet but hey, I made it!  Smile

As I travel through my own Journey day-by-day, I seem to have times when I just struggle, usually with one aspect of the Journey at a time (thank goodness!).  I am at a very stressful time now where my plate is way too full and there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done that I need to do.  The restaurant updating process [to include the new PointsPlus & update the old Points] is a long and tiring process but one that is getting done.  That is first and foremost on my list of things to do.  That and taxes, updating my Journal online, posting on our awesome Message Boards, and other too-many-to-list projects.  Wish me luck and send all the hugs you can.  So, now you know why we are talking about stress again this week.  Smile

Let's go get our tall glass of sparkling water and settle in for a nice visit in our most comfy chair.  Don't forget to bring those SMILES Smile with you.  Hugs! Dotti

Dotti Dealing with Stress
    By Dotti Coon
       —first published November 9, 2008

How many times have you woken up with the best outlook? How many times did that great outlook get shattered within an hour of waking up? Let's see - your car won't start, your AAA just expired and you forgot to renew, your sister can't pick up the kids from school - you get the picture. All of this adds up to stress and more stress. Today we are going to talk a bit about how to calm yourself during these stressful times. Next time you're stressed and need to get back to a calm feeling try some of these tips.

  • Make sure you take the time to get yourself together. Try setting your alarm clock 15 minutes earlier than when the household wakes up. Use this time to sit quietly and appreciate the day that is before you. Better yet, bundle up and go outside for your quiet time. Research has shown that exposure to natural light, especially in the morning, triggers a rise in the levels of mood-boosting serotonin.

  • A photo reminder will relax you in no time. For a lot of women, looking at a photograph of loved ones is an easy way to reduce your stress and bring you back to a calm state. Keep a photograph on your desk or somewhere in your house where you can see the photo clearly. Look at that picture a couple of times a day. By doing so you will calmly replace the stressful feelings with a sense of calm and your breathing will slow back down, helping you relax.

  • Smile, smile, smile. Stop and smile at your kids, your spouse or your pet. Take the time to really appreciate them. Remind yourself that you're running around feeling frazzled and stressed because you love them. Did you know that when you're really smiling, it relaxes you because it's physically impossible for your body to feel stressed? A smile is so much nicer than a frown, isn't it?

  • Move! Regular exercise is a good way to raise your tolerance for the high levels of adrenaline released during stressful situations. What do you do when you are in a stressful situation but you are only able to do a little bit of walking around the office? Believe it or not a few short strolls around the office during the day helps in getting your stress level down. When you sit at your desk all day you tend to stiffen up and start hunching over your desk. A good plan, when at work at a desk, is to get up every hour or so to stretch your legs and take some deep breaths. By doing so, you are giving your body a much-needed break, and you'll be much more productive when you return to work.

  • Listen to some music. Research has shown that listening to certain kinds of music can increase feel-good endorphin and serotonin levels, along with reducing physical and psychological stress. Arthur Harvey, a neuromusicologist at the University of Hawaii, recommends listening to just a few minutes of classical compositions, particularly those by Bach, to help you mellow out. You can test out this theory by downloading any of the free classical performances from Try listening to your local classical musical station instead of the news (which will stress anyone out!) during your commute to and from the office.

  • Don't just sit and wait, do something. How many of you that have small children to pick up from school get a bit antsy while waiting for them? Why not use that time to do some deep breathing while you walk around the parking lot. Another way to relax and settle down is to take a book or magazine along and read them. Better yet, keep them in the car so you will always have them available. When you focus your attention on something other than your watch, you give your brain a chance to relax and settle down.

  • Create a ritual. After getting home from work make sure you take a quick break before starting your evening routine. This will lower your blood pressure and stress hormone levels. Before you even think about going through your mail, checking your answer machine or heading to the kitchen to prepare dinner, try changing out of your work clothes. This will help decompress you. Try pampering yourself by putting on something that's warm and comfy, like your favorite jeans or a fleece sweat suit and a pair of slippers. Being comfy is a sure-fire way to relax me!
As you can see from above there are ways to lower your stress quickly. Sometimes life-stresses just appear out of nowhere and if you don't know how to handle this stress, while working through the issue at hand, you will find yourself frazzled and stressed to the limit.

Stress is dangerous. Stress is one of the main reasons people overeat or just eat the wrong stuff while trying to stay on Program. It is very important to limit the amount of stress in your life. I know, easier said than done. Let's try some of the ideas above to get stress under control to the best of our ability. Smile, smile, smile!

Until next time…

Hugs! Dotti

The Winner's Creed

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost certain, you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost;
Since out in our world we find
success begins with a person's will,
It's all in your state of mind.

Life's battles don't always go
to the stronger or faster hand;
But sooner or later
the person who wins
is the one who thinks....."I CAN".

Weight Loss Help For You

As you probably know, Al and I have begun a serious and unyielding journey to our respective goal weights. You can monitor our progress by clicking on the graph graphic here.

I have found that whenever I "go for the gold," and want to be successful on program, I immediately turn to my Enjoying Weight Loss CDs for help. Enjoying Weight Loss

  • When I listen—I have a good day on program.

  • Whenever I fail, it is always been when I have stopped.

  • Today, on my Do or Die mission to goal, they are an irreplaceable part of that!
As you have seen for me, it is a tool only. When I need help, and when I am willing to accept help, I find that help in these Enjoying Weight Loss CDs!

Do you remember the Biggest Loser winner, Matt Hoover? He uses the Enjoying Weight Loss CDs! and I had the opportunity to interview him about it.
Matt Hoover

You and I know that weight loss is not a weekend sporting event, or a walk in the park. Taking your excess weight off, and even more importantly, keeping it off, is a very big deal! It isn't easy and it isn't simple.

The very number one reason why that is true is:
Weight loss is a psychological battle more than a physical one!

You have to have your head right before your body can follow. And what can you do to get your head in the game?

There are many things you can do. No one thing is going to solve all your weight loss problems. But I have found these CD's to be a tool that works, when I use them! That is why I am recommending them to you.

Here are some additional things you need to know about this product:
  • The Hypnosis Network is one of the best companies in existence. They are tops in customer service, as well as providing great products.

         They have a solid guarantee. If you don't like the product, you return it for a full refund, up to one entire year after purchasing! There is no need to say why, and there is no fighting to get your money. You get it back right away.

  • They are honest and fair, and quick to respond to any problems. They want you to be happy and they do all they can to make sure that you are. They are personable and caring about your needs and wishes.
Give these CD's a try. If you like them the way I do, it will be the best money you have ever spent towards helping you control your weight. If not, you get your money back. That is hard to beat!

You can READ OUR REVIEW right now, or you can order your CD's right now. You will be glad you did!

Also, remember they are offering:
  • A great price
  • 3 easy payments
  • With Mental Toughness CD included for no extra charge.

Software You Can Use! — And Now Available Online!

A Note Weight Commander

The Weight Commander is an awesome program for your Journey. I highly recommend it to all those who are on a Journey of their own. It is a wonderful program to track your progress on any weight loss program you are using. You can read My Review of the Weight Commander or go straight to the source and check out this great software by following this link to Weight Commander. He has many tips and ideas throughout his program, which will help you to be successful on your Journey.

And for those who don't feel comfortable downloading software, or who cringe when Windows gives them another unnecessary warning about running perfectly safe software, Michael has created a wonderful online version of Weight Commander, where you can always access your information with privacy, with no worry about trying to transfer it from computer to computer when you switch. You can of course still get the software version (which continues to work very well, even on my Windows Vista computer), but the online version of Weight Commander is a wonderful new option! You make the choice, but you win either way. Smile

Did you know?

Our Journey is not just about weight loss; it's about constantly learning new things…

The awful truth is that these famous masterworks, The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein were originally titled, He Do the Police in Different Voices, Trimalchio in West Egg, and The Man From Mars.

The awful truth is that these cartoon rock-and-roll divas' singing voices, Honey Bear of The Sugar Bears, Melody of Josie and The Pussycats and Ann Margrock on The Flinstones were actually voiced by Kim Carnes, Cheryl Ladd (under the name Cheri Moore) and Ann-Margaret.

Bloating - Bad Habits That Bring It On

Bloating seems to be a common problem to many of us on our Journey. According to Max Tomlinson, author of Clean Up Your Diet, you should avoid the following "don'ts".

Eating While Walking: When you are not sitting down, blood that is needed for proper digestion is directed to your leg muscles instead.

Stressing Out: When you're tense, your body goes into fight-or-flight mode, causing blood to shunt away from your digestive tract and into your extremities. You can chill out by practicing deep breathing, doing yoga or becoming a tea drinker. Research shows that tea drinkers handle stress better than others.

Taking Certain Medications: Antibiotics go after good as well as bad bugs in your body. If you are taking them, it is recommended that you add a serving of high-probiotic food, such as yogurt or a probiotic supplement more than two hours after taking the medication. A few other drugs that wreak havoc on your system are Anti-fungal medication, including Monistat cream and Mycelex, antacids and aspirin. It is okay to increase your probiotic intake at the same time you are taking these medications.
