Welcome

January is almost done…with February knocking at the door!

The holidays are over and so is our fun visiting with relatives we haven't seen in a while.  Rip, my little brother just left after visiting for 6 days.  We had a lot of fun and some great heart to heart talks.  I hated to see him go.  He has gone on a lot of hikes with us in the past and we hope to get back to that sometime in the future. Both Rip and I are suffering from very bad arthritic hips, aggravated by our weight. DWLZ Facebook

I'm still busy trying to get our restaurant files converted to the new PointsPlus values and that has been a full time job.  I have some wonderful volunteers from the message board assisting, which has been a huge help in this task.  THANK YOU my friends for all your help.  It is greatly appreciated!

Today, I'm talking a little about keeping that "honeymoon" phase that we enter, when we start a new Journey.

Let's go grab that nice tall glass of sparkling water and settle into our comfy chair for a nice visit. Don’t forget to bring that great smile Smile of yours.  Hugs! Dotti

Keeping the "Honeymoon" Phase
    By Dotti

Many of you are embarking on a new Journey to a healthier you. It doesn't matter if you are recommitting or starting new, when you start a new Journey you are ready to give it all you have.  You are excited at the thought of a new approach to a Journey you are on for the rest of your life.  New ideas keep it fresh and exciting.

Did you know that when you start your Journey, the first month or so is called the "Honeymoon" phase, the phase where you are flying high because your Program is working.  You are seeing results.  You can't wait for your next meeting to learn more.  Weigh-in is something you look forward to each week to validate all that you are doing right. You can't wait to talk about your Journey and share your discoveries and results. It's a great stage to be in.  So, why does it go away after awhile?  What makes the twinkle disappear from your eye?  Why are you quiet about your Journey all of a sudden?

First, isn't the "Honeymoon" phase awesome?  Gosh, I wish we could bottle it up and draw from it anytime we are struggling or losing the motivation to keep on keeping on. Just set it on a shelf and pull it out when needed.  Guess what?  You can do something like that. Do you want to know how?  That is what we will be discussing today - ways to keep that "Honeymoon" twinkle in your eyes; that burning desire to do the best we can do on our Program; and most of all to keep on keeping on with that same "Honeymoon" behavior.  I know many of you are reading this and wondering if I've finally lost my  marbles but truly, I haven't. Smile

This "Honeymoon" phase doesn't just happen on your Journey. You enter this phase with everything you do that is new.  Example:  You just started college, got all your supplies, books and are now ready to go to class.  WOW!  How exciting and on top of that, you love your Professor. He makes it so easy to learn something new.  Skip ahead about two months - where is that "Honeymoon" twinkle?  Why aren't you talking about your new class or your great teacher.  Where did your enthusiasm go?

The "Honeymoon" phase has now slid into the "Complacent" phase, without you being aware of it.  How did it happen?  When did I leave the "Honeymoon" phase?

As with all things, the newness and excitement of our Journey moves out of the "Honeymoon" phase and into the routine, rather boring, unexciting stage of "just doing it because I have to".  Isn't that true?  How many of you are going through the motions but not very excited about it?  How many of you have lost that "Honeymoon" phase, along with the excitement and 'high' that comes with it?  I know after a couple of months I start to lean that way.  How can we fix this and KEEP the "Honeymoon" phase?

I believe the reason why we lose that "Honeymoon" feeling is because we start going through the motions, meaning we are just doing it but leaving the 'heart' behind.  Do you understand what I'm talking about?  Your heart and soul are not into it anymore. Don't get me wrong; going through the motions and doing your Program is a good thing but if you don't have heart and enthusiasm about your Program, soon your "going through the motions" will be alongside the road next to your heart and enthusiasm.

So, what can we do to keep your Journey alive with heart, enthusiasm, excitement and fun on a continuous basis?

  1. Try new recipes, if you are into cooking, and you love tasty variations.

  2. Map out several walking paths so you're not looking at the same scenery all the time.

  3. Get to your meeting a little early and talk to one new person at your meeting each week.

  4. Try a new food every week.  You'll be surprised at how many you'll like!

  5. Set up a reward system for every 5 lbs you lose.  Make sure it is a non-food reward.

  6. Dress for success on Program. Don't wear sloppy clothes or you will slip into a sloppy, "I don't care, nonchalant attitude.

  7. Don't deny yourself. If you are craving something, have it, and move on.

  8. Buy yourself a pretty reminder to help you stay on Program.  Mine is a silver bracelet that says Courage, and all along it there are sayings like, "It's already in you".  I have not taken it off, since I started my "Do or Die" Journey back to goal.

  9. This is your Journey; make it YOURS.  It IS all about you.  Do what makes you happy and what will help you keep the excitement going.

  10. Always take time for yourself each day, renewing your strength and desire to stay on your Journey.

  11. Know that by keeping your enthusiasm and excitement about program you are helping others keep theirs.  It's contagious!

  12. Keep a pretty jar full of positive affirmations and pull one out when you need it.  I have such a jar and sometimes it's just that little affirmation that keeps me excited about what I am doing.

  13. Visit an online community for support, ideas, and hugs along the way.  I know a good one where the Zonies are very supportive, called Dotti's Weight Loss Zone Message Board.

When we lose the "Honeymoon" phase, it's because we have stopped being enthused and excited about our Journey.  We need to keep that excitement going any way we know how.  I've given you some ideas above but I know you can come up with some of your own.  Do what you have to do, in order to succeed, and stay on your Journey with a SMILE and have fun while you are doing it.  Don't do anything you are not comfortable with, or that you cannot see yourself doing for the rest of your life.  That will kill the "Honeymoon" phase quicker than anything.

Most of all, mix it up. Seek out new friends and others on the same Journey.  It's amazing how support from others, whether through meetings or an online community, helps you stay motivated and in that "Honeymoon" stage.  I know when I'm in that stage, I cannot stop talking about it.  I want to tell the world about what I'm doing.  I want everyone to have the same wonderful feeling that I'm having  on this Journey.

When you find yourself getting too complacent on your Journey try and remember what we talked about today. It won't take long to get that original feeling of excitement and success back.

Have an awesome couple of weeks. Until we meet again...

Hugs! Dotti

When you go out to eat, you can know what to order, and how much you are eating by checking Dotti's Food Score, and let it help you make the right choices. With nearly 600 restaurants to choose from you will almost always find, your exact restaurant, or if not, one that is very similar to it, to give you help in making an estimate about menu items and their nutritional value.

NOTE: We are updating our database to include BOTH Programs (the new one that just came out, and the one that we already covered).  Thank you for your patience as we work through this project.

Weight Loss Help For You

As you probably know, Al and I have begun a serious and unyielding journey to our respective goal weights. You can monitor our progress by clicking on the graph graphic here.

I have found that whenever I "go for the gold," and want to be successful on program, I immediately turn to my Enjoying Weight Loss CDs for help. Enjoying Weight Loss

  • When I listen—I have a good day on program.

  • Whenever I fail, it is always been when I have stopped.

  • Today, on my Do or Die mission to goal, they are an irreplaceable part of that!
As you have seen for me, it is a tool only. When I need help, and when I am willing to accept help, I find that help in these Enjoying Weight Loss CDs!

Do you remember the Biggest Loser winner, Matt Hoover? He uses the Enjoying Weight Loss CDs! and I had the opportunity to interview him about it.
Matt Hoover

You and I know that weight loss is not a weekend sporting event, or a walk in the park. Taking your excess weight off, and even more importantly, keeping it off, is a very big deal! It isn't easy and it isn't simple.

The very number one reason why that is true is:
Weight loss is a psychological battle more than a physical one!

You have to have your head right before your body can follow. And what can you do to get your head in the game?

There are many things you can do. No one thing is going to solve all your weight loss problems. But I have found these CD's to be a tool that works, when I use them! That is why I am recommending them to you.

Here are some additional things you need to know about this product:
  • The Hypnosis Network is one of the best companies in existence. They are tops in customer service, as well as providing great products.

They have a solid guarantee. If you don't like the product, you return it for a full refund, up to one entire year after purchasing! There is no need to say why, and there is no fighting to get your money. You get it back right away.

  • They are honest and fair, and quick to respond to any problems. They want you to be happy and they do all they can to make sure that you are. They are personable and caring about your needs and wishes.
Give these CD's a try. If you like them the way I do, it will be the best money you have ever spent towards helping you control your weight. If not, you get your money back. That is hard to beat!

You can READ OUR REVIEW right now, or you can order your CD's right now. You will be glad you did!

Also, remember they are offering a great price, 3 easy payments, and including the Mental Toughness CD for no extra charge.

                      Hugs! Dotti

Healthy Eating Guidelines

The U.S. Government recommends the following for healthy eating.

  1. Aim for a healthy weight.  As we get older, we need fewer calories, and weight can creep up, increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other medical conditions.
  2. Become physically active every day. You can't separate eating (calories in) from activities (calories out).
  3. Eat a variety of grains every day, especially whole grains.  People who eat at least three servings of whole grains daily are at a lower risk for heart disease and diabetes.
  4. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day.
  5. Choose a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol and  moderate in total fat.
  6. Choose beverages and foods that moderate your intake of sugars.  A lot of our calories are coming from sugar, especially in soft drinks.  These calories provide no nutrition, just calories.
  7. Choose and prepare foods with less salt. Reducing sodium, along with eating more fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy foods, is a good way to control blood pressure.  Losing weight is another.
  8. If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation. "Moderation" means up to one drink a day for a woman, two for a man.  Alcohol raises levels of beneficial HDL cholesterol, which carries LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, out of the body.  It also inhibits the formation of blood clots that can cause heart attack and stroke.  Red wine may have extra benefits.  Its dark-red pigments are rich in antioxidants that prevent the oxidation of LDL, making it less likely to stick to artery walls.

Software You Can Use! — And Now Available Online!

A Note Weight Commander

The Weight Commander is an awesome program for your Journey. I highly recommend it to all those who are on a Journey of their own. It is a wonderful program to track your progress on any weight loss program you are using. You can read My Review of the Weight Commander or go straight to the source and check out this great software by following this link to Weight Commander. He has many tips and ideas throughout his program, which will help you to be successful on your Journey.

And for those who don't feel comfortable downloading software, or who cringe when Windows gives them another unnecessary warning about running perfectly safe software, Michael has created a wonderful online version of Weight Commander, where you can always access your information with privacy, with no worry about trying to transfer it from computer to computer when you switch. You can of course still get the software version (which continues to work very well, even on my Windows Vista computer), but the online version of Weight Commander is a wonderful new option! You make the choice, but you win either way. Smile

Visuals For Your Journey

Visuals are a great tool on your Journey

I work very well with visuals as I'm sure most of you do. What are some visuals that you can think of that would help motivate you to stay on your Journey?  Some of the visuals that I've seen used over the years have been very motivational to me.  Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Make a paperclip chain of how many pounds you want to lose ~ As you lose the pounds move one paperclip for every pound to another chain.  Quite the visual!
Lift a 10 lb sack of potatoes ~ Pretty heavy, huh? Imagine how you will feel with those 10 lbs gone.
Take a good look at a pound of "fat" ~ This was done at one of my Weight Watcher meetings. Next time you are upset because you only lost a pound this visual will make you feel much better about that one pound loss.
Take pictures on your way to your goal ~ Whether it's every 10 lbs or a different amount - you decide - this is a great way to actually see your progress.  Make sure you take a front and side picture.

Sometimes we need help visualizing different aspects of our Journey.  Make yourself a list of visualizations you can use when needed.

It turns out her weight is 140.

The nurse asks, "Your height?"
"5 foot 8," she says.
The nurse checks and sees that she only measures 5' 5".
