1st Annual DWLZ "Pounds Lost" Food Drive 11/15 to 12/31, 2002

We did it!

Zonies donated 3,001.7 lbs worth of food in the First Annual DWLZ "Pounds Off" Food Drive. That's 1.5 tons!

Many, many thanks to everyone who either donated personally, or who enlisted their WW Groups or employers to help out! We did good!

This is truly what the Holidays are all about. Here are a few photos of Jackie's (HillCountryGal) Weigh-to-Go group who donated a total of 336 pounds of food (that's from seven people) - 100 pounds of that represented Jackie! That does not include the 35 pounds Rick (JackiesRick) has lost! So, Susan.. please add 35 to that 336. That makes 371 pounds from the Texas Hill Country. Click on the links below to see the photos.

Jackie and her "Weigh-To-Go" group with their donations! WOW!!!

**DWLZ "Pounds Lost" Food Drive 11/15 - 12/31**
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Zonies!!! This will be our FIRST ever DWLZ "Pounds Lost" Food Drive, which will take place November 15th - December 31st.

I was in chat just now talking to a group of Zonies. One of the Zonies, Tess, came up with the idea of donating her POUNDS LOST in potatoes to a local shelter. We all thought it was a great idea! Hope you do too! Just think how many people we will be helping this Holiday Season! You may give your food to shelters, churches - wherever food is needed to help the less fortunate!

This is how it will work: For every pound you have lost you will donate 1 pound of food to your local shelter or other facility where food is needed. If you are just starting out on your journey then you can donate according to the amount of pounds you want to lose or your first 10% you want to lose! Everyone can participate! Don't feel you HAVE to donate your whole amount lost but please let's donate some food to the less fortunate!

I will be donating 95 lbs of food - (that's only 5 20lb bags of potatoes) Post here (Username/pounds of food donated/state donated in) when you have made your donation. We will have someone track the total pounds of food donated to shelters during this time!

Let's all share our SUCCESS on this Journey with others that are less fortunate!

When you've made your donation check in again on this thread so Susan can add your donation to our list:

Thanks Lissa - Al and I have 150 lbs of food going somewhere, someplace too! I know my bowling alley runs a drive plus I'll check out all the shelters in the area! I plan on spreading the food out and giving to several places in need.

Here in Augusta they always have a couple of food drives before/during the holiday. I've always donated here at the hospital, where we have a big "can". Can't say I've ever put in 55lbs of something before That's enough to feed an entire family!!

I'll join in, too! 55 lbs from Utah - this will be so cool to see the numbers add up. (Well, Utah won't add up much - not too many Zonies here!)

I'm thinking potatoes ($1.99 right now for a 20 lb bag) and maybe a turkey, too. I'll post when it's done!

Talk about great minds thinking alike

Our Weigh-To-Go group that meets every Tuesday has been talking about doing this very thing! Our local churches "adopt" one or more families each Christmas. Our group is going to donate food equal to our total weight loss to the church we use for our meetings. I'll post the total amount we donate and maybe a picture or two. Now THIS is what the holiday's are all about

I'm 10.8 pounds away from my 10% goal of 34, and as soon as I hit that (I'm hoping for early December), I'll be donating a 14 pound turkey and 20 pounds of potatoes. 34 (hopefully) pounds, IL. I'll let you know when it's been done.

60 lbs for WV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does dog food count? I always go in with a group of girls I know to buy for a special family that we "adopt". I am also a sucker for dogs. I have three "babies" myself, one of which came from the shelter, and I always give to them every year also. So if it's ok I would like to donate 30 pounds of food to the "puppy shelter" and 30 pounds of food to our "adopted family". This is such a neat idea. Thank you guys for thanking of it. Have a wonderful and blessed holiday season!

Well, mine is done. I ended up donating dollars instead of pounds of food to a local needy family. I decided this would probably work better since we were donating to a particular family rather than to a food bank. This way they could buy the meats, veggies, etc. that their family likes.

Dropped off my donation yesterday, it ended up being 16 lbs. instead of 15, I lost a lb. and had to go buy some more green beans! I carried the bags upstairs to weight them, and can't believe I ever walked up and down those stairs all day long carrying that extra weight! I made everyone I knew pick up those bags so they could feel it too!

15 pounds of food will be donated in NY. It might get canned goods (16 ounces = one pound) or boxes/bags of rice. I intend to have my husband carry the 15 pounds worth of food for me, so he can appreciate the amount of weight I lost. <smiling> Will advise when completed.. Debz

While I haven't done my donation of 96 lbs of food yet, I did mention it at my WW meeting, and I have thrown out the challenge to all the members. My leader, Faye, is also taking my challenge to her 3 other meetings. While technically these are not Zonies, I will be tallying the amounts we donate to our local food bank for our leader. Another WW leader at the meeting has said she will bring it up to the local management...so it grows and grows ladies. I will post both my donation and the donations I have encouraged so you can see how we do up here in Canada! Thanks for the idea.

Well, Gang - it looks like the Western portion of the country has taken this food drive by storm! California is in the lead with donations of food/$ representing a whopping 185 lbs! Wooohooo! Washington is a close second with Dotti and Al's 150 lb contribution. Utah comes in 3rd with Librarylady's 55 lbs. Alaska is next with Akmom's 45 lbs. Also making showings so far:
New York, Texas, Germany. Many thanks to those who have contributed food or dollars for food so far - we've made contributions representing a total of 495 lbs! Let's continue put that Zonie power to work!

I forgot to mention that I just stuck a check in the mail to our local Foodbank for $20, and will take more food down there as I (hopefully) take off a few more lbs this month.

Pounds lost Food Drive
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All, Today I had my first weigh-in. I have 173 pounds to lose, so I will donate 75 pounds of pet food to the animal shelter and 100 pounds of rice and beans to our Migrant Head Start Program here in Southern Oregon. Thanks for the inspiration!

Ok.. our Weigh-To-Go group met tonight and everyone brought non-perishable food to equal the pounds lost.

Are you ready? ? ? ? ?

336 pounds of food (that's from seven people) - 100 pounds of that represented me!

That does not include the 35 pounds Rick has lost! So, Susan.. please add 35 to that 336. That makes 371 pounds from the Texas Hill Country. Competitive? You bet! Surely, Texas will have the other states beat!

I just got on this site and am blown away by the idea of donating our lost weight in food. Add Ky. to the chart now as I'll be donating 30 pounds of food to our Meals Ministry at my church. There is a WW mtg at my church, too so I'm going to suggest this to them.
Thanks for caring everyone

I feel so good! I gave 12 pounds of rice, and 3 pounds of assorted canned goods, totalling 15 pounds, to my church in Deer Park, NY. (St. Ciril & Methodius Church). I explained the weightloss donation concept to them, and they loved the idea. Add 15 pounds of food to New York! Debz

Add another 30 pounds for Donna in Alaska- On Sunday the priest sent out word that Christmas baskets had been requested and now we needed food to fill it I dropped the children at home and went shopping. Our church usually makes up Thanksgiving baskets but this year was the first time they have had requests for Christmas baskets too ( other area churches must have been swamped)

Wow! Our DWLZ "Pounds Lost" Food Drive donations now add up to 1,811.7 lbs! If we can get just 188.3 more lbs worth of food donated, that will make a TON of food that the Zonies have provided for the holiday season! Come on, folks - those 10 and 20 lb donations add up! Let's see if we can hit 2000 lbs by Midnight on December 31!

Donations have been made in various ways:
* Food weighing the amount of weight that the Zonie lost
* Number of cans or containers of food representing the number of pounds lost.
* Monetary contribution equivalent to the number of pounds lost.
* We've had 2 shining star that got their groups to pitch in, too!

Many thanks to the folks who have already helped out! Please doublecheck the post at the beginning of this thread to make sure that I've given proper credit where credit is due! Thanks again, and hope to be able to add a few more names to the list in the next couple of days!

I just clicked on this page to see what it was all about and I am happy to report that on Christmas Eve DH and I donated a big box of groceries to our local food bank. We have decided to make it an annual tradition, to try to give back a little for all of the blessings we have received How many pounds it was, I'm not sure, but I'd say at least 50. What a great idea this is!! You all are the best!!

Here's the latest on the Food Drive, folks! In the last 2 days, we've added over 1000 more lbs to our total! To date, Zonies and friends and employers have donated 2856.7 lbs. worth of food to Charity! But wait...There's still time left for you to donate food representing your number of pounds lost on this journey! This Food Drive doesn't end until midnight on New Year's Eve! Many thanks to all who have spent the time, dollars and effort to help those less fortunate. DWLZ truly is a winning team!

Kay is a dear person who has been a member of our little family here for a long time, but has never posted. She assures me that she will get up the nerve to post in the near future, and I hope she does. She's a lovely lady who you will enjoy getting to know, as I have.
