Week 65 Update

Our night was warmer than usual, and the temperature still had not fallen below 62° at 5:00 AM, when I stepped up on Mr. Scale and he said, “184.0 pounds!” That is better (and higher) than I expected.

I started off the week on Sunday eating 50.5 points, even though I had weighed in at 185.5 that morning. It was our last day in the hotel room, and we were getting a little tired of the place, and before I knew it my points were up a ways. I wasn't too worried because I felt like I was due for a drop. On Monday, the day we drove home, I weighed 182.0! So, I ate 55.0 points that day, and brought my weight up to 184.0 on Tuesday. I was busy all day at work in the clean room on Tuesday and I had 53.0 points to eat. My weight jumped up to 186.5 on Wednesday morning. So, even though I had another full and busy day in the clean room at work, I held my points at 33.0 that day. On Thursday I weighed 185.5. However, Thursday was a very trying day for me, with Dotti's surgery. They wheeled her into the pre-surgery room at 12:15 or so, and it wasn't until 3 hours had past before I could see her again. In the meantime I hurried down to the hospital cafeteria and grab a fast lunch (10.5 points). I came right back upstairs to the waiting room, and a few minutes later the nurse whom I recognized as the one who had prepped Dotti's knee earlier, came out to tell me that Dotti's surgery had been delayed a bit and she was just now being taken into surgery and that I had time to go down and grab a bite to eat. I thought that was very kind of her. (Later I found out that Dotti had sent her out with that message. She is such a thoughtful lady. Here she is in the final stages of getting ready to go in for surgery, and she is worrying about whether I am going to get something to eat or not. That is so like her! Yep, I'm a lucky guy!!!)

My Mom, who had driven up with her husband, to be with us for the surgery was putting together a puzzle in the waiting room, and so I joined her while we were waiting. About 50 minutes later the Doctor came out and said the surgery had gone very well, and he expected a full recovery. We were overjoyed at the news! We finally met back up with Dotti in her room about 3:15 PM. She was still groggy, but she was well aware that she had not had anything to eat since the evening before. By 5:00 PM we had left the hospital, picked up something to eat on the way home and were sitting down to eat it. I went heavy on that meal (34.5 points) which pushed me up to 50.0 points for the day. Fortunately, I had not had a big breakfast, and I only had one point for snacks that day.

Thursday night was not a good one for sleeping. Dotti was in pain and it was hard for her to get up out of bed and she was not real used to her crutches yet. By the morning when I weighed in I had dropped down to 182.5 pounds. That left me in a bit of a quandary as to what to do for eating on Friday. Should I hit it hard to bring my weight back up, or take it easy in case it was just a fluke on the scale? I ended up eating 51.0 points for the day, and it pulled me back up 1.5 pounds to my old standard weight of 184.0.

This week, I raised my average points per day by over 1.5 points, and my weight dropped 1.0 pound. (I felt lucky that it didn’t drop any more.) I ate 50 or more points on 5 of the last 7 days. I averaged almost 49 points a day. It is funny how things change from week to week. I can't imagine how much my weight would fluctuate if I only weighed myself once a week, or even worse, only once a month. I could jump 10 pounds easily in that time. I wouldn't know if I was going to be in the low 170s, or up into the 190s somewhere. (On our Tanita scale, I weighed 179.5 yesterday morning.) I find weighing each day to be critical to my maintenance efforts.

Once again this week I averaged 72 ounces of water each day, and had at least 6 cups each day. So, I was happy with my water consumption. I didn't do anything for exercise this week, other than some active days at work, and the running around that has accompanied Dotti's surgery.

This Week In Books

This week was not a good one for reading. I did make some progress on A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar. It has had some interesting points to it, but I have been disappointed to a certain extent. I was looking more for a mathematical story, with a side dish of psychology, but I am getting less of either of those things so far than I had hoped for, and getting more social commentary than I had expected when I began the book. We'll see how it goes from here.

I have not been able to read anything at night before going to bed. I have been too tired to even think about reading when my head finally hits the pillow.

1 year, 90 days OP, a lifetime to follow!
