Week 179 Update

It was 52º at 05:07 in Depot Bay, Oregon when I stepped up on Mr. Scale, and he said, “183.0 pounds!” That was the fifth day in a row that I was at 183.0 pounds. I had averaged eating just over 42 points per day for the week, so being down a bit was to be expected.

The ocean was beating against the rocks outside, and the wind was whipping by the condominium, sounding like it was searching for a nice shingle, or piece of siding to take along with it as a souvenir. It reminded me of my younger days when I was living in Barstow, where the wind is a nearly constant companion during the spring and fall.

It was therefore only appropriate that we were on the coast this day in order to visit with my mom, who had the condo for a week and invited us to share some time with her. LeRoy joined Dotti and me in the van for the drive over to the coast on Friday night. We arrived late, but fortunately safely, after having to work our way around a very nasty looking accident at the start of Lincoln City on the way.

Last Saturday I weighed in at 185.0 pounds. Dotti and Tracy went out shopping and I did some walking and even did some shopping at a music store, while waiting for them to return. We all ate late in the afternoon at Sweet Tomatoes (21.5 points for me) and by the day’s end I had eaten 41.5 points.

Sunday morning I woke up weighing 184.5 pounds. I we ate at Sharis for lunch, and I had a large meal of 29.5 points. I ate light at dinner, and ended the day at 49.0 points.

Monday I was 184.5 pounds again, and along with my normal breakfast and lunch, I had a nice dinner which included Dotti’s “tortellini soup,” which I really like, and it is well worth the 4.5 points for a cup of it. At the end of the day I had eaten 39.0 points.

Tuesday I was down to 183.0 pounds, setting the precedent for the rest of the week. My eating was very similar to what I had on Monday, with a slight increase on the snack points, and moving my total for the day to 42.0 points.

Wednesday I held steady at 183.0. I ended up only eating 36.0 points for the day, and was a little worried that the scale might drop the next morning. However…

Thursday, I was still 183.0. Dotti and I had a nice dinner at Sweet Tomatoes, and I threw in a few extra points to make sure that I didn’t have a low reading on Friday. I finished the meal at 28.0 points, and the day at 55.0 points.

Friday, you guessed it, I weighed 183.0 pounds. After working all day, doing the drive home in Portland rush hour traffic, I then was looking forward to another couple of hours of driving to get down to Depot bay. Fortunately, the drive was uneventful, other than seeing that accident at Lincoln City, and the company was very pleasant. We stopped at Subway and grabbed a sandwich before starting our drive and it held us over until we reached the coast. Upon arrival, I took 3 tablespoons of some cashews that Mom had on her counter, for 4.0 points, and that finished off my total of 36.0 points for the day. Fortunately, at weigh-in I hadn’t dropped any more.

Walking has been the focus for me of late. I have been trying to catch up on the elusive track to 1200 miles that I lost sight of back in July. I started this week with 39.9 miles walked for the month, and 865.1 miles walked for the year. Naturally, to be on track for 1200 miles, at the end of the tenth month, I should have walked 10 one hundred-mile segments, or 1000 miles. With 84 days left in the year, I was nearly 335 miles short of my yearend goal. I had my work cut out for me. (And I still do.) In order to reach 1200 miles by the end of the year, I need to average nearly 4 miles per day, or 28 miles per week. This week I did much better than that by walking 44.87 miles during the week, bringing my total for the month to 84.8 miles and finally pushing my total miles for the year up over 900 miles (910.0), where it should have been at the end of September.

Saturday and Sunday I walked two of our 3.05-mile loops on each day. So, I was over 12 miles before starting the workweek. Monday I walked 3 miles at work and then did a 3.05 miles loop at home with Dotti. Tuesday I did a 3.17-mile loop at work, and then did a 3.05 miles loop at home. That took, me over 24 miles for the week at that point. Wednesday I did 1 mile in the morning, 2 miles at lunch and then did a 3.05-mile loop at home. I was over 30 miles for the week, and getting really close to 900 miles for the year at this point. Thursday morning I walked 2.0 miles in the morning, and then I walked 2.4 miles at lunch, bringing my total for the year to exactly 900.0 miles! In the evening, Dotti and I walked to Sweet Tomatoes and then back home again, moving my total to 903.8 for the year. Friday, I knew that I would not be able to walk in the evening because we were driving to the coast. So, I left for work early and walked 3.0 miles before work. At lunch I did a 3.17-mile loop, and that ended my walking for the week. As mentioned before, I did 44.87 miles for the week and moved my monthly and yearly totals up to 84.8 and 910.0 respectively. This moved me closer to reaching my goal for the year, and I was very happy with how the week went.

For water this week, I drank at least 6 cups every day. I averaged 62.86 ounces (7.9 cups) per day, at the high end of my target range of 6 to 8 cups per day.

Overall, I am happy with how the week went.

3 years, 158 days OP; a lifetime to follow.
